Favorite Instrumental Song(s) by

bands that typically don't make instrumentals. Max of five per post. Previews encouraged. I'll start in no order:

Between the Buried and Me - "Medicine Wheel"
Alice in Chains - "Whale and Wasp"
Faith No More - "Woodpecker from Mars"
Lovage - "Koala's Lament"

I'll go with this one:

dog 04-09-2009 04:37 AM

albatross by the original fleetwood mac is great

Flower Child 04-09-2009 09:25 AM

I gotta agree with you 333, Whale and Wasp is a such a great one.

My favorite, though, has to be

Jamaica Rum by Bob Marley

Antonio 04-09-2009 09:52 AM

Allman Brothers Band-In Memory of Elizabeth Reed

Brian Setzer-Sleepwalk

Mastodon-Bladecatcher

Little Wing - Hendrix/Vaughn

It's all I got. Most of the music I listen too is by musicians who usually perform/write instrumentals.

Speed Of Life... It's the only reason I like Low by Bowie.

But, similar to Satchmo, most of my music is either by purely instrumental artists or vocalists who don't produce work without vocals.

I'm very into Unwound - Go to Dallas and Take a Left right now.

^ good to hear! that song is chaotic at the end, awesome tune.

one of my favourite instrumentals is "Turkish Disco" by Fugazi, who don't normally make instrumentals (although they do have an album of them). It's actually one of my favourite songs, in general.

A really good instrumental is Galaxie 500's Instrumental.

Janszoon 04-09-2009 01:59 PM

"Romany Caravan" by the Church is a really good one.

lucifer_sam 04-09-2009 02:09 PM

you know there's a Steve Harley cover on that album, right? Marty Wilson-Piper did a good job on that one too.

333 04-09-2009 02:10 PM

Aw, you guys DID post on this! Sweet. Though I know most of what you all have posted so far, I've gotta check out the ones I'm not familiar with. SATCHMO, you forgot about the Beastie Boys. :) I left that off my list on purpose, so you could pick it up. You're not a picker-upper. I'm currently listening to "Bobo on the Corner".

I didn't know that! Which song is it? EDIT: Just looked it up and saw that it's "Ritz", that's a pretty good one too.

Oh, and another great instrumental Church song is "Eastern" off of Sometime Anywhere.

Ritz. from Cockney Rebel's The Psychomodo. i think Steve Harley's voice fits the song better, but that might just be since i heard it first.

still a decent cover.

Nick pick. I've actually only heard Vaughn version (many times) even though I knew it was originally Hendrix...gonna look up his version right now.

Anyways, my pick is Rush - YYZ. Fell in love with that song from Guitar Hero 2. I think it was the hardest song I was able to beat on expert...probably coulda beat some harder ones if I practiced em, but this one was too much fun :D

Nice ones

I'll take those three and add:

1. Corrosion of Conformity - "Bottom Feeder (El Que Com Abajo)
2. Opeth - "For Absent Friends"
