Almost all of the Beatles albums where recorded in Mono. They didn't start getting mixed in stereo until Sgt. Peppers. But at that they spent over 2 weeks mixing the mono version and about 2 days mixing the stereo version.

Stereo was still a very new concept in pop music back then, they where still trying to figure out what they could do with it. They didn't really ever get into stereo miking techniques until late '68.

The worst part is when the record execs realized that stereo was catching on, they took the old Beatles catalog and just took the final 2 track bounce down and panned it hard left/right. Thats way you get all the drums on one side and all of the vocals on the other etc. for a lot of the Beatles catalog.

I'm super excited to hear the mono mixes. But the I'm pissed off about the fact they are going to master the stereo mixes in a modern style.

Pretty old news. But they are making a Rock Band game for the Beatles which should be sweet, it even has unreleased tracks.
