A poll for an essay I am planning(what draws you towards a certain band)
I have to write an essay on what the "best" musical instrument is. I will focus mainly on rock, punk and metal bands ranging anywhere from 60's to present day. A very vague topic in my opinion as no guidelines are given following this. So my idea is to head towards:
What instrument draws you or gets your interest(generally) or the first instrument you listen for when listening to a new track or band? Very vague i know. |
yup most people would say guitar is easiest to write songs on and such. Plus it simply gets more attention than any other instrument from most people. A lot of classic songs are classic just because of what the guitar is doing, and not really any other instruments.
Funnily (is that word?) enough, bass. Usually when the right type of bass is there (a strong driving bassline that isn't extravagant), the song has a nice structure to it.
No one instrument can convince me to listen to a band. It's about the overall sound from the band itself.
It's no one sound for me either. It's always the whole sound that gets me interested.
Guitar and Bass. i listen to not only if the guitarist can play, but if the bassist is actually trying to play an instrument and not just f*cking around. i hate it when i can't hear the bass in the songs
I'd say the guitar as its so versitle as there are not many other instruments that can used along with the voice alone to allow one person to make music. As well as its place combined with other instruments.

trumpet (brass in general)

That thread was a classic
...and it's unfinished!
you can't narrow down what draws someone to a band simply to one instrument... that would really be a bad essay imo
Definitely Bass Guitar. I'm Into Funk Music And I Think That's What Comes Out So Strongly On The Best Tracks.
If we are talking about a normal band structure, it's definitely guitar. Vocals are a close second.
The bands whole sound is what mostly attracts me, although the bass guitar and drums can also make me want to listen to a band.
it's drums for me.
it took me a long time to notice that it was the first element that i really grabbed onto. as a guitar player i'd always 'choose' to listen to the guitar predominantly, but that was a choice, it wasn't my natural listening reaction. |
Guitar. Usually depends on what kind of music it is too.
A really good guitar or some striking vocals can grab my attention, but it usually takes some kind of combined effect of the whole band to actually keep that attention.
Honestly? I am a melody kind of person. I don't care if the guitar is so simple that [B][I]I[I][B] could play it...if its catchy and somewhat inventive, its worth my time.
Also, if I wake up and I am thinking about a song I heard yesterday, its probably worth downloading. |

How much poon I get for liking the band.
