Obscure Music
EDIT: This thread is really old and I'm no longer asking for obscure bands. But post some here for everyone else to discover.

The guy's artist name was Bushtaka, he operated out of Ft. Lauderdale when I lived there in '04...really weird stuff. He gave me a CD but it fell through the gap between my hand and the garbage.
|
I have a good amount of obscure Canadian stuff that I've found over the years. One of my favourite groups is The Darkest of the Hillside Thickets from my hometown of Vancouver. They do punk rock music but most of their lyrics take inspiration from author H.P. Lovecraft. They put on a great live show, all dressed up in different outfits and it's just some good fun music to listen to.

i guess this applies

^Didn't work

Say thanks I'll check it out. Where did you get it? |
Mountain Ash Band is also probably the most parent friendly band in existence, your parents will like it more than you.

Yeah I've had it for a long time and it's starting to become my favourite albums.
Also you'll cry manly tears. :nvr4get: |
Why do you want parent-friendly? Is your taste that conservative?
|
I'm guessing so he can play it while his parents are around?

You can post stuff thats not, just tell me if it's explicit. I'm sure other people will want to come to this thread looking for obscure stuff. Quote:

cause he wants his parents to go "what?"...
come here do you just want strange weirdo stuff like what CC posted, or are you looking for actually enjoyable tracks that are just less known? |
If you actually took the time to listen to John Zorn you'd probably still hate it, but at least it's music that challenges and takes you out of your comfort zone. Comfort zones can be drab, stagnant places.
Go and listen to Fuschia or something; obscure and reasonably challenging whilst i cant see it offending your parents too much. Above all though, the s/t is great. |
Sounds cool... do you have any d/l links?
|
I'll sound you sweet as link replete with the obscure, including Fuschia.

i don't understand where people's fascination with the obscure stems from. as far as i can tell there's a pretty damn good reason obscure music stays obscure.
|
Did you listen to the whole MAB album?

It's hard to be obscure during the age of interwebs, but Wildbirds & Peacedrums probably qualify.
Oh yeah, and Wevie Stonder. They're beastly. |
^ Wow cool. Tell me more plz :)
|
Quote:
Wevie Stonder does silly little electronic mixes.. they're usually a lot of fun and should not be taken too seriously. You can find everything here WEVIE STONDER Wildbirds & Peacedrums are a bit more grounded obviously, their music doesn't vary much but the lead has a fantastic voice. |
I was mentioning Wildbirds and Peacedrums more.
|
Wrong place, pal.
/old thread |
Can anyone hook me up with Mountain Ash Band? That link went dead, despite Comus's predictions :(
|
Yeah bro I'll get it for you in a bit, I'm on mobile right now.
|
Hmmm, I found them on youtube so it should be easy to find their music online :).
|
|
I have a few obscure gems floating around in my music folder
Sidewinder and I are pretty much the only people who listen to this I'm pretty much the only person here who's heard this I'm pretty much the only non- hardcoar mathrocker who's heard this I'm the only person in canada who's heard this I'm pretty much the only person in the world who's heard this |

|
^I love that album.
I actually think it was you who sent it to me :D |

Brenoritvrezorkre and M. Ostermeier came to mind first. Brenoritvrezorkre is good in certain occasions, but I enjoy M. Ostermeier in almost any situation. His music is very thoughtful and introverted. I love it. There's only 2 songs of his on YouTube, one of which is from my favorite release of his!
http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_z8PI9bmpMG.../lakefront.jpg Dark minimalistic ambient. Amazing stuff. I review quite a bit of stuff that isn't very popular. I wouldn't say obscure so much, but almost. |
The most obscure album ive ever heard has to be either "Siberian Winter" by Nautic Depths or "Tropical Trip" by Golden Jooklo Age
