I wouldn't care if they did snoop, really.
I just have better things to do with my time. Searching the web for hot women all day, namely. ;)

Freebase Dali and Urban Hatemonger, it's nice to see you mocking and potentially resurrecting (if thirtiesgirl should see this) an argument that another moderator shut down in another thread. Great example for the boards. :)

Evan Dando was a good looking guy back in the day.

They made those jokes before Pete put his foot down.

Since the last male musician about whom I posted in this thread is dead, I'll post about one who is even (alas) deader:

Johannes Brahms. Virtuoso pianist + Composer + German = HOT HOT HOT!! :D

Until I happened by the "snog, shag, or marry" thread down in the lounge today, I had no idea that Johannes Brahms looked like THIS back in 1853 when he was twenty years old:

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...rahms_1853.jpg

Add to his fetching appearance the fact that he composed the following music, my favorite composition for clarinet and piano...

Brahms Sonata for Clarinet and Piano No. 2, 1st. Movement
Levan Tskhadadze - Clarinet

...and I would have joined the many adoring fans described in this article about Johannes Brahms, if I had lived in the 1850s:

Quote:

Brahms the baby sitter, Brahms the handsome young fellow who turned the heads of many aristocratic ladies, Brahms the avid traveler, Brahms the liberal political thinker, Brahms the wit and practical joker, are all parts of the man. Knowing them, we know something of the inner workings of Johannes Brahms, who was one of the greatest musical minds of all time.

SOBS: Chicago Local: Unearthing Johannes - Robert Kameczura examines Brahms: Life and Letters by Styra Avins
Here he is seated at the piano:

http://www.london.diplo.de/contentbl...rahms_Bild.jpg

Finally, here he is all grown up:

http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_cDFFfc8VCO...00/Brahms1.jpg

The pictures of Brahms make me curious about the appearances of other famous, deceased male and female musicians and composers whom I know only through their music. When I listen to their music, I somehow forget that they were real people. It's nice to remember they were once flesh and blood, just as we are now.

Did they even have gyms back then? :p:

I agree, Brahms appears to have been on the slender, delicate side of physiques when he was a young man...

...but he was a pianist. He must have had very capable hands.

Brahms reminds me a little of another dead man, Heath Ledger, perhaps because of a similarity between their lips, hairlines, and eyebrows. I've never felt any particular affinity for Heath Ledger's appearance though, although he had an awesome name. I feel Brahms beats Ledger in a contest of faces, hands down. Heath Ledger looks cute, I suppose, but Brahms...Brahms looks beautiful (and he spoke German ):

Johannes Brahms: beautiful!

Here are some more pictures of Brahms:

As a lad, I think, and then from the side when older:

Another serious, arms-crossed picture of Brahms (he seems to have liked that pose):

No mention of Richard Marx? Women obviously liked his appearance (probably to the detriment of his rep as a musician).

But I'd go with Gavin Rossdale, yeah. Lol at Gabe Saporta. Unfortunately for me, I probably look more like Saporta, with a (not-buff) Marx body.

Dave Gilmour looked pretty good when young. What happened? :) Too much drugs and food, I guess. Jim Morrison (probably the 2nd best-looking male musician) was headed that way before he died - or he probably wouldn't be missed so much.

Mike Tramp (White Lion singer) was a "pretty boy" back in the day. And women loved George Michael before his sexuality was widely known.

Edit: it must have been Nick Lachey's looks, especially the muscles; his musical ability certainly isn't much.

(No, despite all that, I'm not gay.)

sopsych 07-29-2011 10:23 PM

I decided to approach this analytically, in the non-controversial, easy areas:
Best-looking bassist: John Taylor (I'm spurred to edit this by video tribute blocks to Warrant. Jerry Dixon stands out. So does Mark Andes, of Heart, etc.)
Best-looking drummer: ("Dreamy") Larry Mullen, Jr. or Roger Taylor (Duran Duran's Roger Taylor also gets a shout-out.)
Best-looking bunch excluding the lead singer: Spandau Ballet
Best-looking keyboardist (more than occasional): Gregg Rolie (slim pickings there and an idea for a different thread)

Tchaikovsky

More pictures of Tchaikovsky:

Tchaikovsky's photos made me curious to learn more about his life (about which I knew nothing). I learned that he appears to have wrestled with trying to find fulfilling relationships as a gay man in a society that didn't view same-sex love as legitimate, although he accepted his homosexuality; he did feel great passion for some men in his life; he worked very hard as a composer; he died of cholera at quite a young age (53) and in distress. :(

About Tchaikovsky
Tchaikovsky Research : Life (1877)

As far as Tchaikovsky's own attitude to his sexual predicament is concerned, he could not of course fully neglect societal convention and, generally speaking, was rather conservative by temperament. In addition, in his youth he was repeatedly pressured to marry, and at some point he conceived the idea that he could change his sexual orientation and successfully live with a woman in order to ease his own life and mollify his relatives. Even at that stage, however, he considered his homosexual tendencies natural and in no way his own fault.

[He later wrote of himself, after an ill-fated marriage to a woman who loved him but to whom he promised only brotherly love], “Only now, especially after the tale of my marriage, have I finally begun to understand that there is nothing more fruitless than not wanting to be that which I am by nature."
^ There is great wisdom in that last quote of Tchaikovsky.

But when I was watching Portlandia and saw Kyle MacLachlan on bass, my main thoughts were, "Jesus Christ, he is a handsome man."
