They know, it's called trolling.

The Unfan 07-16-2009 11:58 PM

I actually had to look it up and I'm still not sure which vocalist he is. They had 2.

BTown 07-16-2009 11:58 PM

The guy from Blink 182. He's the one with the higher voice.
Since they got back together his voice sucks live simply put.

The Unfan 07-17-2009 12:00 AM

Oh, the one with the higher voice. I can't say I'm fond of it, but it is unique and I understand the appeal of it.

khfreek 07-17-2009 12:01 AM

Musicbanter: when we think music, we think Blink 182

RVCA 07-17-2009 12:03 AM

Have you heard his voice since the band has re-united?

The Unfan 07-17-2009 12:04 AM

No. They've recorded stuff already?

RVCA 07-17-2009 12:10 AM

They played live on The Tonight Show. YouTube it, if you actually care.

Long story short, he sounds horrible. I'm anxious to go see them in concert this September because I'm really hoping he doesn't sound so bad by then, but I have a terrible feeling that nothing will change.

TheCunningStunt 07-17-2009 12:52 AM

He's always had good recording vocals, but has always been shit live.

And his voice has changed, he isn't a whiney kid anymore however he's singing in an A&A voice at the moment, and people are getting annoyed by it because he isn't the same Tom. Get over it, years change, people change.

RVCA 07-17-2009 01:02 AM

Hoppus is the one that sounds like a fag, Delonge is the one that sounds like a cunt.

BTown 07-17-2009 11:53 AM

Right now they are just touring and they will hit the studio in like November I'm pretty sure..According to Mark Hoppus they have already written a "Post-Hardcore" song.
This will be interesting...

siamesedream 07-18-2009 11:19 PM

I guess I'll have to be the first one to post an actual answer to the question...being a formerly huge Blink fan as a teenager

I think Tom's voice fit with Blink, because it's pop punk and you don't have to sing well. I never really liked the vocals in the band overall, but they did fit with that kind of music. And on Dude Ranch Tom has a certain young rasp to his voice that seemed to work better than the almost faux-british whiny sound he developed later, i.e. pronouncing his "I's" like "oi"

But as far as Angels and Airwaves go, and his assessments about how the band would change the world - it's laughable. And it's mainly because of his voice. The music is supposed to be atmospheric and pretty, but his voice comes in like nails on a chalkboard when combined with something like that. I can't enjoy that band or anything "mature" sounding he does because his voice will always ruin it. He can sing for a fun jokey party band like Blink, thats it. You can't sing like Tom Delonge if your band is supposed to be "changing the world"

Astronomer 07-18-2009 11:33 PM

Tom Delonge's voice is possibly the worst ever sound I have heard in my life.

sidewinder 07-18-2009 11:37 PM

When I was a fan of Blink between 96 and 99, I preferred Tom's vocals over Mark's. Now probably not so much. But I still think Cheshire Cat and Enema of the State are good pop punk albums, even if I never get the urge to listen to them anymore. I never liked Dude Ranch much for whatever reason.

winterinwarsaw 07-20-2009 04:08 AM

My brother's always been a fan of Blink 182 so I have a bit of a soft spot for them, regardless of their musical ability. I've never really been too keen on Tom's voice because let's be honest, it's like listening to a menstruating teeny-bopper. I just don't like whiny bitches.
I hadn't realised that his voice had changed since they'd reformed and now I've had a listen I've decided that Blink have lost their relevance. Really, I just find it a little sad that they're in their mid-30s and still singing about high-school.

The Unfan 07-20-2009 05:05 AM

Because it would be completely rational for them to change the lyrics to all of their songs and the fans would just accept it and learn new words to sing along with.

So once you hit 30 it renders you incapable of writing new material? Holy shhit, I never knew.

They should have just kept their "integrity" and not reunited. Their other projects weren't too bad really, +44 actually had some decent stuff and that's coming from a person who's not really into that scene. But reforming to play the same songs as before? I understand that they're releasing a new album, but it still just comes off as a desperate attempt to generate some cash.

The Unfan 07-20-2009 06:30 AM

Well, since the band is back together what did you expect? That they'd exclusively play new material?

winterinwarsaw 07-20-2009 07:38 AM

I guess it's a little unrealistic of me to think that but what I really think the point is, is why reform at all? As I said, it doesn't show much integrity and it just doesn't feel very genuine. The fact that they are still playing angsty songs really just gives them a desperate feel. I can't see three fully grown men sitting around one day and thinking "Hey, I think we should get back together to sing about f*cking dogs". There doesn't seem to be any creative longing/genuine enthusiasm for their music in this decision. It really spoils their integrity to think that it's all for the money. Not really true to the punk rock ethos.

BTown 07-20-2009 12:34 PM

Well you never know, it seems to me that they have a ****load of happy fans about them reuniting.
They are taking the approach most bands take after reuniting, tour and then hit the studio.

ArgoUseless 07-20-2009 11:14 PM

Not too into high voiced men, but he's alright.

dispid 07-21-2009 02:16 PM

this whole thread is one big exercise in pointlessness. we are all dumber now for having read it.

million dollar basher 07-21-2009 02:21 PM

haha the name of this thread was enough to make me laugh.

Despite the fact that his voice is so over the top, Blink tunes resonate with me for nostalgic reasons. I was listening to "Enema of the State" the other day, and hearing De Longe's voice reminded me of the days when I was out riding BMX bikes with my friends, taking interest in the fairer sex for the first times, getting homeless people to buy me cigarettes at gas stations....Blink reminds me of my childhood, so I tend to not get hung up on the dude's voice....

Violent & Funky 07-21-2009 11:03 PM

I greatly prefer Mark Hoppus's vocals. I really like albums like Cheshire Cat and Dude Ranch...

Zer0 07-23-2009 03:33 PM

... does Tom Delonge's voice really deserve it's own thread?
