I'm the same way. Still I think the external hard drive option is excellent for the casual archivist and the die-hard packrat alike.
Drag/Drop/Done. Then whether you have 10GB or 1000GB saved - your main hard drive doesn't have to keep up at all. I get pissy when my computer starts moving slower than I'm used to.

I think my cousin uses an external server... its a darn good idea... his whole music collection is stored on that baby, and if I remember rightly there's alot of CDs on that baby...

For me I just use an 8 gig Player Othe same device I surf on... the relatively unknown but IMO excellent Sony MYLO) and go through the whole upload / delete cycle as needed... I probably should just archive the 1000 pl1s CD collection I have, but that would take some serious money that I couldn't be bothered outlaying, and I enjoy the set up I currently use!

i think thats was a problem trent rezner was talking about on the New generation of kids listening to music they Just want more and more listen to it a few times and move on to the next thing on a fast level

to me trying to find new bands is like work i tend 2 do it everyonce in a while but i can go for weeks without searching for anything and just listen to music i got

I tend to like to savour an album... soak it up, then revisit... I guess thats why I seek out music that I feel a strong emotional connection to... so I can revisit it meaningfully and get that feeling again, or better still plough further depths into the music and find new nuances. meanings, minute details, be they sounds, production values or lyrical meanings...

I love to get lost in a musical sea sometimes....

On the one hand there's never enough music. I just keep on trying to see and hear new stuff. Like to explore new bands.
On the other hand I sometimes get the feeling that I get swamped by too much music to give it all a proper chance or to give the albums I own another couple of spins.
That's why I quit downloading. I only copy digital albums from some friends now and then. But I guess it's just easy to get an information overload nowadays.

Thousands of albums are released every year so however much you listen to in your life time you'll probably only be scratching the surface anyway.
