i see unsigned and signed as one and the same. usually trhe only difference would be the quality of equipment for playing and recording as well as one band being lucky enough to get noticed by a company and one not having the oppurtunity yet.

With the technology available it pretty easy to create and produce your own music as long as you have a computer powerful enough to run the software and the patience to learn it. Give it time, as interfaces become more user friendly and the instrument to computer ports become cheaper I think you'll see a rise in unsigned acts because well... they don't need to be signed. Take my friend Kirk Witt for example, dude does everything himself (he does feature guest musicians on his tracks) but for the most part he writes, records, and produces all his own stuff. From there he does offer some CD's, but for the most part it's for download. He doesn't tour or do live shows, and yet he can create a CD. He's just one example of some of the newer trends in the music industry. He doesn't need to go out and promote himself because he's got fans like me to do it for him.

I haven't listened to traditional radio in ages. It just all begins to mesh together and sound the same. It's a shame some great, unheard of bands can't get radio play because of promotion or production quality.

Internet radio is pretty cool though. Last.fm is great and Pandora is pretty decent (except I get a lot of the same stuff being played over and over for some reason). There's also Grooveshark, but I haven't had a chance to check it out.

grooveshark is pretty cool. i've always wondered how their licensing works though i feel like they might run into trouble at some point. i used to use last.fm a lot just as a plug-in for itunes, never really used the radio station though. anyone use slacker or iheartradio?
