Apart from the fact that Bono is by no means SOLELY responsible for the actions of his publishing company, it's not bad at all when you really think about it. I mean, do you expect him to want to pay more taxes when he had the opportunity to not do so? Of course not, nobody would. Truth is, that doesn't make his proposition any less valid. Whether U2's publishing company pays taxes to Ireland or not, more poor people are going to be helped if Bono's idea goes through. That's what matters. You're just sour because he's obnoxious.

Yeah, pretty much! That is why I am sour. Because he is obnoxious, arrogant, and boastful. But I do stand by my claim that he can be a tad hypocritical at times. Mirroring his belief system with the way he acts never adds up.

bono is satan and u2 was a mediocre band at first. but since i became aware of the world in the past 10-15 years, i've never changed one belief. bono is completely full of himself, and untill he changes that, nobody will care what he does. really, to me, the way he demands attention for what he does makes me sure he's not doing it because he genuinely cares, but for other reasons.

They are far from being mediocre on their first album.
I thought U2 first album Boy ('80) was a pretty good debut, I rank it high with other debut albums from bands from that time (circa '77 -> '83) like REM's The Church, Television, The Talking Heads, Gang of Four. I thought guitar bands from the post-punk era had a influence that can be heard even today - including U2.

REM & Talking Heads, agreed - great!

They did go through periods that I don't care for, but one reason I like U2 is the same reason I like all guitar bands (well most of them). I'm a guitarplayer and I the love sound of the guitar. Dance music can be dated but good guitar music is timeless.

The Edge has a different approach then most guitarist, his guitar is heavily processed and that give it texture, it's different and unique (sometimes his guitar playing has an ethereal sound to it - like Bad or Wire.)

you have to admit that calling yourself the edge is a little douschy. he would be the highlight of the band though, and i like to hear different things as well (not a musician). but the other bands from that era are better to me, especially REM, and they get half the attention.

I never said I was the Edge, you totally misread what I said.

I dunno, I think we all know Bono is arrogant and showy, but at least he's doing something... I mean we may not always like the way in which he does things, but I think the end result is more important than the medium by which it is acheived...

And in all of his showing off, I do believe Bono believes in what he is doing...
