What general problems do you have with music?

like finding good music, finding it for free, finding an audience, etc

jackhammer 08-26-2009 05:41 PM

I have no problems finding good music. The problem I have is forcing it upon others!

how much of it there is

Arya Stark 08-27-2009 12:43 PM

A lot of the music I listen to is also listened to by my younger sister.

That's a problem.

I was once told that means I have to move on. xD

Unrelenting 08-27-2009 01:08 PM

Let's not get into that.

The Unfan 08-27-2009 02:29 PM

I'm never certain how ironic my taste is.

silverbullet 08-27-2009 02:33 PM

i dont think i have a problem

Psychomyth 08-27-2009 03:23 PM

Categories.

Everything has its own "Category" of music now. The correct word used here should be "Genre" but its more than that these days.

Classof75 08-30-2009 08:32 AM

No "problem", but when I hear a song (a "new song) and I can tell what it will be before I hear it, it does'nt really excite me too much. Sometimes it seems like everythings "been done" already, and "new" music is just rehashed old music (and usually not as good either).

drewtown 08-30-2009 08:59 AM

My two biggest complaints about the music industry now is...

Micro-Genres - i.e. Free-form electropop synthrock

Sampling - I really dislike artists who over sample instead of coming up with their own music. Use some creativity!

Rev On The Red Light - Foreigner

Why Foriegner......why?

..........WHY?

Terrible Lizard 08-30-2009 09:55 AM

You can never be satisfied with what you got. Just when you think you have everything that you could possibly want on your i-pod, someone posts a thread about some Pronk/dub/blues/ troubadour band where all the members play with their toes and teeth. And of course you're thinking "Well one more album wouldn't hurt, I have some room left." And before you know it, you have the band's whole ****ing discography. Along with 5 other albums by bands you hated 24 hours ago.

Dr.Seussicide 08-30-2009 10:05 AM

I normally abuse one song on repeat when I listen to music.

And I can basically only listen to a new album like every two weeks! =/

...Too much music... =|

I agree with mr dave that much music seems very self-centered, light and fluffy. For example, one complaint I have is that most lyrics revolve around people and their concerns (human love, infidelity, sexuality, self-introspection, wrestling with emotions, etc.). The number of songs that focus on people greatly outweighs the number that deal with other topics. I prefer songs that surprise me by offering some new viewpoint, but they rarely do this. The music itself can be mesmerizing, but usually it seems like pure auditory masturbation...and when I'm done listening to the song it fades away, leaving no lasting impact, not changing me at all. In other words, most music seems like a one night stand rather than the building of a relationship.

I understand the importance of genres and even sub-genres, they really are helpful in describing a sound. But I agree that it's just getting out of hand. It's the internet generation...fucking analyzing and comparing everything instead of just listening and enjoying.

music_phantom13 09-01-2009 10:46 AM

While we're on the topic of the whole genre thing, here's what annoys me. People come up with ridiculous amounts of subgenres for what should be one type of music. But at the same type, there's this generic genre thing going on to. Like classifying bands as "indie music." I use the term to, like I use alternative, but what the **** does it really mean? Rarely ever are people talking about a band that isn't associated with a major label. But then as soon as you figure you can just refer to any band that sounds remotely like anything in that label, some deuchebag comes up and tells you that so and so are Revival 70's Garage Punk, not indie rock. Also, there's too much music. That's not bad though.

Urban Hat€monger ? 09-01-2009 11:02 AM

The worst thing about most music is it's never as good as what other people say it is.

Grotesque Head 09-01-2009 11:04 AM

When you come up with what you think is a good lyric/beat/riff or whatever, only to play it or read it the next day and think it sucks.

Bulldog 09-01-2009 01:56 PM

My biggest gripe with the music industry can be found by clicking this link.

I warn you, it ain't pretty.

Or it's completely different.

What about those rare times when it's better?
Wait. . . . that never happens. :banghead:

 Nice. I like me a Foreigner song or two, but the cheeziness of that one is almost unbearable...

Rev On The Red Line is what it was called btw.

noise 09-02-2009 12:32 PM

the worst thing about music is the fact that i'm compulsive about it. when i find an artist i really like, i can't stop until i find their entire discography in 320 or flac. it's maddening.
