What turns you on to music?
We have reasons for liking certain songs and hating others. What are yours?

I like songs that sound depressing.
|
It's simple. I like songs that are underground or kvlt. If too many others recognize the name of the artist or song then... I start to dislike it/them.
No...not really. I mean, there's alot of obvious reasons to like a song: - It sounds cool. (duh) - Your friends or someone you really admire likes the song and recommends it. - You were in a pleasing situation the first time you heard it. etc. |
i love expiremental songs, just not too overboard, like if your gonna play three instruments not including singing at the same time lol (just a wacky example)
Well i also absouletly love punk music, all forms of it. I just like the pure and raw strength and speed of it. No Filler So yeah, being creative and powerful (not necessarily fast all the time) is my type of thing =D |
anything that is not fake and is not commercial.

Strong melodies. Singers with warm, rich, intimate voices. Music with interesting textures, unusual chord changes and tunings. Poetic impressionist lyrics. Bass is my favorite instrument, I like songs with good bass lines. Dreamy, wistful sounds with an otherworldly quality. Songs that mix genres: pop-rock-folk-soul songs with jazzy or classical flourishes.

Strong lyrics.
I usually like songs in minor, but I'm not too picky. I like songs with a story. Usually, I hate songs about break-ups. |
it has to make the voice that doesn't speak say something.

I feel I have no I idea if I like good music. I have no idea why I like songs and I always wonder if they are just as good to other people. I think a good rhythym section (bass and drums) and melody that developes throughout the song are my top two criterea for liking a song. |

- The artist needs to look hot and show a lot of flesh (if female)
- The artist needs to look tough and really cool (if male) - The band need to be a decent age im not listening to any pensioners signing naa meean? seriously now.... It depends on the genre. Rap specifically for me has to express the artists thoughts/opinions/emotions or tell a story (fictional or not) or be thought prevoking. Rock (all forms) have to be able to evoke some sort of emotion from me whether it's anger, sadness, excitement, happiness ect. Also i have to enjoy the sound, for example the Who's "baba o'riley" and "eminence front" don't evoke any specific emotions but i just love the sound. The music is brilliant. Then for me classical has to create a strong atmosphere, any kind of atmosphere (similar to what i was saying about emotions) but it has to be strong. I could go on... but i can't be bothered. - Captain Awesome signing out. |
I like music which tends to stick in my head once I've listened to it, because its kind of no pointless if you listen to an album then you can't really remember anything memorable afterwards.
Also, I like good, simple drum beats that you can tap along to (albeit badly) and stuff that is a bit quirky and different, that not everybody knows about. |
