Default What turns you on to music?

We have reasons for liking certain songs and hating others. What are yours?

I like songs that sound depressing.

It's simple. I like songs that are underground or kvlt. If too many others recognize the name of the artist or song then... I start to dislike it/them.

No...not really.

I mean, there's alot of obvious reasons to like a song:

- It sounds cool. (duh)
- Your friends or someone you really admire likes the song and recommends it.
- You were in a pleasing situation the first time you heard it.
etc.

i love expiremental songs, just not too overboard, like if your gonna play three instruments not including singing at the same time lol (just a wacky example)

Well i also absouletly love punk music, all forms of it.

I just like the pure and raw strength and speed of it. No Filler

So yeah, being creative and powerful (not necessarily fast all the time) is my type of thing =D

Strong melodies. Singers with warm, rich, intimate voices. Music with interesting textures, unusual chord changes and tunings. Poetic impressionist lyrics. Bass is my favorite instrument, I like songs with good bass lines. Dreamy, wistful sounds with an otherworldly quality. Songs that mix genres: pop-rock-folk-soul songs with jazzy or classical flourishes.

Strong lyrics.
I usually like songs in minor, but I'm not too picky.
I like songs with a story.
Usually, I hate songs about break-ups.

I have a very precarious and discriminating taste, it is hard to describe. It really depends what mood for what genre of music I want to listen to. The last few songs I really got into was 1901 by Phoenix, Jique by the Brazilian Girls, and Love Letters by Snow Pony but before that I was listening to Coldplay and The Strokes.

I feel I have no I idea if I like good music. I have no idea why I like songs and I always wonder if they are just as good to other people.

I think a good rhythym section (bass and drums) and melody that developes throughout the song are my top two criterea for liking a song.
