BUT NOW!!! I think I've got it. The schticky, 80s sound pallette on EMOTION is bland and lifeless. The production is partly to blame. It's clearly meant to evoke some kind of flashy, slick, plastic, 80s nightlife vibe, but ends up just feeling kinda sparkly, too plasticky, and distant. Even Carly's squeaky vocals just add to this. It's like the whole album is laminated to prevent you connecting with it.
So there. I don't give a **** about Carly Rae Jepsen and you people are idiots.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that feels this way. I remember when blankmind dissed this album in his journal and everyone was jumping in trying to defend it. I tried giving it a listen and it was close to the worst thing I'd ever heard (and I do listen to some pop). Utterly generic songs with vocals so over produced you wonder if there is actually a human behind all that compression and limiting. To be fair I only got through half the album but I'd honestly rather dig out my own spleen with a blunt spoon than listen to it all the way through.
