If it makes you feel better, sorry that I don't care to listen to the two most hyped indie albums of 2009. I fell into that trap last year and I'm not letting it happen again.

This is a very tough choice to make because I have found alot of cherishable albums this years.... WAY more than in previous years... I haven't enjoyed as many new releases in a single year as this since say, around 2005. I'd say my membership on this site has helped this immensely, actually...

But the top three or four so far are...

Devin Townsend - Ki / Addicted
The Church - Untitled # 23
Silversun Pickups - Swoon

Why should he like it just because everybody else thinks it's amazing?

I'm with Alfred on the Grizzly Bear album, for what the album is it has been completely blown out of proportion by the indie press.

People won't remember it in 2 years let alone 20 or 30.

Quite right. Just because some people don't go all doolally for flavour of the year albums doesn't automatically mean that they are being confrontational for the sake of it. Many on here seem to think that by not liking the Animal Collective's of this world, you are being elitist for the sake of it when it's a simple fact that they just don't do anything for us.

Well to be fair to tracer, it sounds like Alfred never listened to those albums so you could say that he never gave them a fair chance. On the other hand, it is his decision whether he considers the band worthy of a listen or not. However, I don't think he should dismiss them unless he's listened to the albums.

I don't care who likes or dislikes whatever but have those who have dismissed the hyped albums even given them a listen or are you just being anti-mainstream for the sake of it?

This proves my point. Yes I have heard Animal Collective and Grizzly Bear myself and I didn't like them. Most people presume that if you diss on a well liked album you obviously haven't heard it, which is presumptious.

Many people may have not heard albums posted by myself, Urban, lucifer Sam etc in our lists but that's the way music is. It's opinions and just because I won't put Animal Collective in my list doesn't mean my opinion is any less valid.

I never presumed anything and that's really just taking what you want out of my question. I'm just flat out asking those who dismiss these albums which reason it was for. If the reason you dislike it because it's popular then that's just stupid (not directed at you personally).

I'm not standing up for these albums. I like them but I don't love more than a few tracks.
