Queen ?

Fenixpunk 02-04-2005 12:11 PM

i dont think the misfits or the casualties are important to rock n roll history, good bands, but i dont see how they would be important (the others on the other hand i can see especially Crass, Sex Pistols, Clash, Elvis, The Doors, and the Beatles)
How about Lou Reed or Iggy Pop?

sleepy jack 02-04-2005 12:13 PM

k ill do those especially Iggy.

franscar 02-04-2005 01:09 PM

Kurt Cobain, and even try Roger Waters without Pink Floyd....he had some good **** without the band, and lets face it, he was the true genius behind it all....

The misfits probably did have some impact, i think alot of bands out there credit them as an influence of some sort. Plus, all the skater kids wouldn't have any bands to rep on their tee shirts and hoodies.
Definitely agree that the casualties have no impact, besides being drunk and proud to be punk.
Yeah, Velvet Underground, Iggy Pop, Joy Division, and the Pixies got assraped on that list. I'd add the Slits too.

Hey what about David Gilmour he was a genius to.

What about The Kinks they were pretty vital. They wrote the first ever rock riff with 'You Really Got Me.'

Rock music was around long before the Kinks.

Anarchy doll 02-05-2005 07:28 PM

yes, fine Dave Gilmour was a genius...but Roger Waters was..uuhhh... not even worth explaining to you why he is better, if you don't already know, you dont appreciate his musical or lyrical songwriting abilites enough to know that Dave Gilmour played what he was told alot of the time...

It can`t be a coincidence Pink Floyd turned to crap after Roger Waters left

Anarchy doll 02-05-2005 07:39 PM

^thank you urban....see, you know what you are talking about...

Urban Hat€monger ? 02-05-2005 07:41 PM

Well they were crap before he left to be fair , but the levels of crapness after he left were far greater.

sleepy jack 02-05-2005 10:08 PM

I didnt say rock MUSIC I said rock RIFF. And it's a well know fact that You Really got Me was the first ever ROCK RIFF. Check if ya don't believe me.

Anarchy doll 02-06-2005 09:33 AM

^ actually, rock started with the same basic chords long before you really got me...C Aminor, F G ....lets see, Ritchie Valens, the big bopper, Elvis, etc...etc...give me a break.

So what were on all those Chuck Berry & Elvis records then?

Sneer 02-06-2005 03:07 PM

the stone roses were very influential i think
also, mudhoney for in my view, starting grunge, the white stripes for spawning this new wave of garage rock, and a band who i think were influential in that they harboured 3 of the greatest guitarists of all time (who in their own right were influential)- the yardbirds.

Rock music, not rock 'n' roll. Berry and Elvis were Rock 'n' Roll . Were there any famous Elvis riffs?

LedZepStu The Yardbirds were good but I think Page did wonderful things in Zeppelin, and Clapton did wonders in Cream and as a solo. Beck as a solo artist is amazing.

Name some bands in particular and i'll comment.

Urban Hat€monger ? 02-06-2005 05:50 PM

The Kingsmen , The Trashmen , Paul Revere & the Raiders , The Wailers , The Standells ,? & the Mysterians.

And then of course you had surf music too , you`ll have a hard time convincing me that d1ck Dale`s music wasn`t riff orientated.

sleepy jack 02-06-2005 10:23 PM

Wait..i thought rock was just short for rock and roll..

Kurt_Cobain 02-07-2005 03:16 PM

Nah rock is heavier. Rock and roll has like keys in it, and strange sounding electric guitars. Listen to Chuck Berry- 'Roll over Beethove' and then The Rolling Stones- Sympathy for the Devil, you'll get it.
Plus rock 'n' roll was usually played by black artist, until some guy called Elvis came allong. Rock music is usually played by white guys (appologizes if this seems racist, eg if some members dont like the term black and preffer coloured, it isnt meant to be)

grungeisntdead96 02-10-2005 08:00 PM

i think grunge bands were an important part of rock n roll during the 80s and 90s. nirvana, pearl jam, and soundgarden started a muscial revolution in the northwest, and one cant forget the west coast bands that helped alternative rock evolve, such as the red hot chili peppers and jane's addiction. guns n roses were great too!

silvermoon 02-13-2005 03:46 PM

zep
black sabbath

lou reed
