I don't have anything to add to the discussion, but I saw this video on another site. It's Hitlers reaction to this whole ordeal. He's a massive X-Factor fan apparently...sorta amusing:

Bjork was performing before RATM at the Big Day Out last year and many of the Rage fans in their impatience were frankly pretty fucking obnoxious... they were throwing objects into the Bjork crowd, insulting her performance and being pretty rowdy in general. So if the Rage fans prefer to acquit themselves as rambunctious louts who cling onto their precious hackneyed 90s anthem and can't stomach anything from outside their small spheres without throwing tantrums, then they're no better than anyone/anything X-Factor related.

Not that I care whether this plan actually works out or not... I wouldn't deny them their small victory. I just think it's a pity Rage's modern fanbase is like that because I actually like the band.

I wouldn't buy it. It's a nought out of ten from me. Simon Cowell wouldn't like it. They wouldn't get through to boot camp on The X Factor - they're just shouting.

That's the sound of another 1000 Rage fans emptying their wallets at HMV.

I used to enjoy the Christmas chart battles, it's the only time of the year when the charts are genuinely interesting and get people talking about pop music again. I'm backing Rage, because the Joe McElderry song is absolutely terrible. Hopefully next year when there is inevitably another campaign to stop the X Factor getting to number one, they will choose an actual Christmas song rather than political rap metal.

Awful stuff.The fact an overplayed 17-year old heavy metal standard can make it to number 1 will only imbue adolescent tossers convinced of their genius with the confidence to form even more crap metal bands.

Cowell has the cheek to call the facebook campaign "cynical and stupid".
Now I'm no fan of Rage and I don't care who tops the charts over Xmas, but the satisfaction of seeing Cowell and his latest prefabricated, karaoke X Factor clown fail in their annual bid to cash in over the festive period, warms my heart.
I've not had this much faith in the popular music charts and the general public since Joy Division reached number 13 in 1980.
