Tracks Of The Year

I have posted these around the forum before so apologies for that but these have floated my boat this year. When choosing your tracks please add WHY you like them instead of just posting a bunch of vids.

A simple riff that builds into a crescendo that is both cliched yet unashamedly Metal to it's core. The production allows the song to build to metal orgasm.

There are so many dynamics going on in this song that one listen is not enough. I get hooked on the bassline and then the guitars kick in and then another layer of hooks demand your attention.

Bend over, touch your toes and I will buy you a new hat.

I love retro dance so they all say. So do I and the breakdown in the middle is worth a thousand pale 80's synth pop imitators.

you know when you walk along the high street with your headphones and think you are the coolest person within a mile radius? It's because you are listening to some old school Dance with bass to spare.

One guy with a bald head proves that you don't have to be pretty to write pretty music.

I'm planning a mixtape at some point full of my favourites, no doubt Polvo will be in there and i haven't listened to Fat Freddy's Drop nearly enough. Stand by!

I got this disc just randomly on ebay for a buck or something, not knowing much about it at all. The rest of the album is ok, but this track is a complete gem. When the choir sings the chorus's it just makes me wanna throw up my hands and clap. Best song of 2009 for me.

Beast - Mr. Hurricane (Overall Favorite)

A few runner up's:

La Roux - I'm Not Your Toy (Electro-Pop)
Probably the best song on my favorite album from the year. Very catchy and fun, and the video is just incredibly feel good.

First State feat Sarah Howells - Brave (Trance)
Still my favorite trance tune this year. It just doesn't get old for me. Her vocals are eargasmic.

Technoboy - 4 Days (Hardstyle)
I don't know if anything can get me as pumped as this song when played at high volume. Gives me goosebumps and makes my hair stand up and makes me wanna fight somebody all at once.

DJ Hazard - Tactix (Drum and Bass)
Who doesn't love kung-fu references in their DnB? This song has that going for it as well as a bassline thats just filthy as f*ck. ><

All are excellent tracks for very different reasons.

Propagandhi "Dear Coach's Corner"

Lyrically captivating, musically powerful, and revolutionary in spirit. Propagandhi goes where no other band has gone before. Phenominal song.

P.O.S. "Let It Rattle"

Moody, stripped down, and attention-grabbing. One of the songs that has really stuck with me this year and one of the coolest hip hop songs out there.

Brand New "Sink"

Indie-ish song that screams (literally) of garage rock fury. Has one the most infectious bridges I've ever heard.

Matisyahu "Darkness Into Light"

Matisyahu brings hip hop, rock, reggae and beatboxing together into one of the more diverse songs I've heard this year. The chorus is booming and the verses are funky to say the least. The beatboxing breakdown is one of the biggest surprises I've had from music this year.

Wow. I've never heard any of those tracks before but just wow. Definitely checking all these artists out... plus everything that was said about each track is spot on. :thumb:

The shining moment of a brilliant album, the Antler's "Two" will make you cry. No exceptions.

I was just about to post this.
It is one of the only two pieces of music that has made me cry.

Runner up:

The heavenly synths, the naive lyrics, the chorus, it all strings together so well.

In no particular order...

How could you not like the catchy feel-good nature of this tune. Makes me want to dance and sing along every time i hear it.

Catchy yet completely different. The final chorus just has to be shouted along to and makes perfect sense in recessionary times:
'I don't mean to seem like I care about material things like a social status.
I just want four walls and adobe slabs for my girls'

Yes i've been a sucker for catchy songs this year. This will be stuck in your head for weeks.

Listening to this song makes me forget all the ****ty things that were happening this year. A real bittersweet tune that made me feel good to be still young and enjoying life.
