American music vs British music

Who has produced the best music? Being baised I'd say the Brits. We have The Beatles, Stones, Kinks, The Who, Led Zeppelin, The Smiths, Joy Division, Oasis. The American's also have had some great bands as well.

Who has produced the best?

Brits all the way, mostly because being Aussie I have more access to British music. I dunno...

When I think of 'American Music' I always stereotype it with consisting of mostly rap and rnb. In most European countries there are bands that I much prefer listening to. Plus British metal bands kick ass. I have a lot of music in my collection that comes from America but I find it easy to typify styles and genres coming from America. I see the industry in America also consisting of many things I hate, like being the popular artist is the only thing that matters.

EDIT: That's not saying I don't love most American artists as well

This thread was done before as early as 2005. Brits V. Yanks
Since then the membership has changed dramatically, so it can stay.

I'll add a poll if you want?

I would have added one if I had the know how so a poll would be good. Offering to add a poll sounds like you're sitting on the fense RT! ;)

I'm so tired of all of these debates of which country makes the best music etc etc etc. You cannot measure which country makes the best music because firstly, what is good is entirely subjective, and secondly not all good music from one country is accessible in another country. So the question should be more like, 'Which country has the best music which has become popular around the world,' or something like that, probably articulated better.

Anyway, this issue (the US vs. the UK and who makes the best music) has been highly debated in this thread which isn't that old:

Forgot about the Anglosphere thread! :/
Let's see how the thread runs. I'll leave out a poll for now.

How about...Which country has influenced the world of music the most?

Yeah that's fine, but if you look at the votes/comments in the Anglosphere thread it's pretty much just a competition between America and Britain anyway...

TheCunningStunt 12-30-2009 03:52 AM

That thread is 19 pages, I searched for American and Britain and nothing came up so I thought I'd start it.

Damn same threads being worded differently.

Wouldn't it be better to close this one and bump that one or something? Seems a bit pointless having two when the other one also covers other countries other than the UK and US

right-track 12-30-2009 03:54 AM

Unless you want this; Which country has influenced the world of music the most?

Otherwise I'll close the thread...
