he uses it too much as a gig starter though. But it is an awesome start to a fantastic album.

Oh, there are so many great album openers

Some of my favourite include

^^^ INTRODUCTION FOR TRICK - Koda Kumi
(Opening for TRICK)

^^^ Mirror - Ayumi Hamasaki (Unfortunately the only version I could find was an AMV using the song)
(Opening for GUILTY)

^^^ Not Yet - Ayumi Hamasaki
(Opening for Secret)

^^^ INTRODUCTION - Koda Kumi
(Opening for Black Cherry)

^^^ Opening - Utada (Skip to 1.10)
(Opening for Exodus)

I feel these are excellent openers.

Death From Above 1979 - Turn it Out

Fugazi - Turnover

The Locust - Aotkpta

When I think of getting an album kicked off I think of this nifty little guitar riff with the screams in the background:

Also, this probably won't be a popular sentiment 'round these parts but I liked the way KoRn's catalog starts with Jonathan Davis screaming "Arrrrreeeee Yooooouuuuu Readyyyyy?" on this song:

Lastly, I love the ten seconds of horns that opens Good News:

And  to whomever said 'Teen Age Riot'...

In Rainbows is my favorite from Radiohead. The opening "15 Steps" was a great album opener. They've progressed so much through there music and this just gives a taste to what is to be expected from them.

Once again this song gives the impression on what to expect from modern guilt with the whole 60's psychedelia vibe. This is my favorite opening on all of his album. Very spacey lyrics and trippy song.

I am, and I completely agree with you. Awesome song.

That really is a great one. And I'm not even much of an Alice in Chains fan.

mc chris - "mc chris is dead"

I love this opening track, it really sets the style for the rest of the album and shows just how far he's come as a wordsmith from his earlier songs like "fett's vett"

Blackalicious - "World of Vibrations"

The other two Blackalicious albums start with a kind of short and totally forgettable intro song, but their 2005 release The Craft actually started on a real song... that is incredibly catchy.

O'Death - "Lowtide"

Much like with "mc chris is dead", "Lowtide" does a terrific job of giving the listener a perfect example of what they're going to be listening to for the next 30-40 minutes. Incredibly faced paced and featuring a fiddler that could destroy the Devil in a fiddling contest, this song is one of the best album openers I've ever heard.

Corb Lund - "I Wanna Be in the Cavalry"

Upbeat, catchy, and kind of uplifting despite the fact that it's talking about war. It makes it so much better when they do the reprise later in the song and say "yeah... war is pretty shitty".

Sort of a lame opening but it quickly turns into a soothing and catchy beat that just goes to show that the xylophone needs to be in more hip hop beats.

Love them all. I wish I got into Modest Mouse sooner...
