Music Banter Hall of Fame: Induction Thread 5

Yes, that's right...it's time for our 5th induction thread to find out who will make it into our esteemed MB Hall of Fame. Please see below for the list of most worthy nominees and the rules (which I copied from PMO...hope he doesn't mind! :D )

The nominees are:

Bad Brains

Sonic Youth

Bob Marley and the Wailers

Beastie Boys

Buddy Holly

The Notorious B.I.G.

How this works:

If you have over 100 posts under your name then you can vote, feel free to voice your opinions if you have less posts though.
There won't be a poll, votes will be made publically by posting in this thread. You can vote for yes or no as many times as you want, as long as there's an explanation for your vote. If you haven't heard enough so feel you can't decide you can abstain.
So a post here would look like....

Neil Young: Yes, because....
Nirvana: No, because....
Blur: Yes, because...
etc.

The artists that get 2/3rd Yes votes for them get in, easy as that. Those who don't get in can still be nominated at a later date.

This'll be open for a week and a half, since people seem to be confused remember you are voting what YOU think should be in the Hall Of Fame, not what you think others would want or whatever.

Now get to voting my peeps!

Bad Brains - Yes, because they were influential in blending punk with reggae, and they simply kicked ass.

Sonic Youth - Yes, because half of the bands that people love on this forum wouldn't exist without them.

Bob Marley - Cha, man, because, like, he's awesome and stuff...

Beastie Boys - No, because one great album does not a hall-of-famer make.

Buddy Holly - Yes, because I dig his tone and while his influence may be a little overstated, I think the guy was the first hipster.

The Notorious B.I.G. - No, because

Bad Brains - Yes. Pioneers of hardcore punk and have remained cool all the way through their run. From punk to reggae to funk-metal, this band simply rocks. They are also an important influence on modern music.

Sonic Youth - Abstain.

Bob Marley - Abstain.

Beastie Boys - Yes. They have more then one great album, but the one in question is one of the greatest hardcore rap albums ever made. Yes to this super iconic group.

Buddy Holly - Yes. An essential part of rock n roll culture and even if he wasn't as big of an influence as some of the others, he was a genuinely talented musician and a tragic, iconic figure.

The Notorious B.I.G. - Definate yes. One of the best hip-hop artists to live. A huge influence on the genre. made some of two of the finest albums ever recorded, period. the definitive hardcore rap. A true mother****er going out for the loot.

Bad Brains
Yes. One of my favorite punk bands, and miles ahead of all their 80's hardcore punk peers. HR is easily one of the all time greatest punk vocalists, and Dr. Know's guitar is totally wicked. Reggae, funk metal, and of course hardcore punk, Bad Brains were masters at everything they did.

Sonic Youth
Abstain.

Bob Marley and the Wailers
For sure. Some wicked tunes came from Bob Marley (& The Wailers).

Beastie Boys
Abstain

Buddy Holly
Yes, I think he's way better than Elvis. He made some killer tunes.

The Notorious B.I.G.
Abstain

Bad Brains
Yes, if for nothing else than their unique blend of hardcore punk and reggae. The fact that they actually sounded good doing it is merely a nice bonus.

Sonic Youth
Yes. Interesting band whose influence even now is all pervading in some circles.

Bob Marley and the Wailers
Abstain.

Beastie Boys
Abstain.

Buddy Holly
Yes. He's Buddy Holly, what else do you need to know?

The Notorious B.I.G.
Abstain.

Bad Brains Abstain, I like them and all, saying they're HoF-ers is like saying they're highly recommendable; if they don't make it in the HoF I might regret not saying yes,

Sonic Youth Yes, kings of alternative tunings for the guitar and sonic soundscapes, The Beatles of Alternative Rock

Bob Marley and the Wailers Yes, He's like Bob Dylan of Reggae with a great funky band

Beastie Boys NO, but because I don't think they're that strong at rapping whether it was a recording or during a live performance seen on video. (I like a few songs)

Buddy Holly Yes, because of his contribution to early Rock and Roll during his all too short career. Buddy Holly along with Elvis, Gene Vincent & The Blue Caps, Eddie Cochran, (to mention a few) help make Rockabilly a wellspring of influential guitar licks for guitarist of guitar bands during the 60's and 70's. He was also influential to The Beatles so subsequentially to bands that they influenced (even though it's indirectly.)

The Notorious B.I.G. Abstain

Bad Brains: Yes. A pioneering hardcore band that outlasted many of its counterparts, whether it was their strong output or influence.

Sonic Youth: Yes. They have a slew of great albums from three different decades, including one of the greats of indie rock, Daydream Nation. And, like, influence or something.

Bob Marley and the Wailers: Abstain

Beastie Boys: Yes. One of the great hip-hop groups of all-time. They managed to skillfully combine samples and instrumentation and have plenty of great albums.

Buddy Holly: Abstain

The Notorious B.I.G.: Abstain

Alfred got mine

Bad Brains
Yes, they're badass and stuff.... and who else has hardcore punk and chill reggae on the same album?

Sonic Youth
Abstain... all I have is Daydream Nation

Bob Marley and the Wailers
Yes, because he's cool. Maybe he's overrated but whatever.

Beastie Boys
Abstain... just like Sonic Youth, I only have one album.

Buddy Holly
Yes, <3 Buddy Holly

The Notorious B.I.G.
Abstain. I own nothing by him.

NumberNineDream 02-18-2010 12:41 PM

I'll only vote to the ones I really know:

Bad Brains
Abstain.

Sonic Youth
Abstain.

Bob Marley and the Wailers
Yes. Surely not the best in Reggae, but the only one that got this genre to the masses.

Beastie Boys
Abstain.

Buddy Holly
Yes! His music is great, and his influence is flagrant in all early 60s bands... and in a lot of other later bands, of course.

The Notorious B.I.G.
Abstain.

Bulldog 02-18-2010 02:43 PM

Bad Brains
Abstain. Don't really care enough either way.

Sonic Youth
Abstain (see Bad Brains).

Bob Marley and the Wailers
Yes. Nowhere near my favourite reggae artist, but a great icon for the genre and therefore worthy of any hall of fame.

Beastie Boys
Yes. Hello Nasty + Paul's Boutique =

Buddy Holly
Yes. An absolute giant of rock 'n' roll and, again, way better than Elvis.

The Notorious B.I.G.
Abstain.
