You're older and can appreciate modern music a lot more than I, hats off to you sir (respectful to my elders ;))

I just can't stand what I've been hearing, I've tried so hard to find some obscure modern bands that will just relate to me and I can't seem to do it, I just end up going back and listening to the 60s 70s and 80s, I wish someone would come a long with 2 guitars, a bass, drums and a voice, make a record where they plug in a play, none of this synth bollocks.

You have basically just described the Hunches (although they only have one guitar I think). I'm surprised you don't like them.

As far as "synth bollocks" goes, I guess I don't understand the attitude that one instrument is somehow less legit than another. But if you don't like "synth bollocks" why would you back and listen to 80s music? That was like the decade of the synthesizer.

Well, I mean keyboards and synths are okay when used correctly, I think The Smiths used them, and were still brilliant. But these days it just sounds bad (for me anyway) Radiohead used them for Kid A and that was a great album, but there's something about bands these days that just doesn't do it for me.

NME 2010 up and coming list was laughable.

80s - Van Halen, AC/DC, Motorhead, Queen, The Cure, Guns n Roses (hides), The Smiths, Joy Division etc. that's why I go back to the 80s.

But everything these groups did in the 80s was laughable. Most of it, anyway.

Most of the bands you just listed are actually from the 70s, most of them used synths, and very few of them were the type to make a record "where they just plug in and play". I'm having trouble seeing how they compare negatively to today's music using your standards. Don't get me wrong, I love almost every single one of those bands (except Queen and AC/DC) but there are equally as good bands around right now too.

I take some stick for the liking of 80s hair metal kind of stuff but for me, it's infinitely better than what bands are doing today.

modern jazz and funk, hip hop, trip hop, downbeat electronic, post rock... all infinitely better than the scream-in-your-ear uk garage punk garbage, or tripping balls love your neighbor 70s pop. and most especially that so called 'classic rock' which consists mostly of obnoxious chainsmokers grumbling about tequila and patriotism to the same guitar riffs over and over.

the variety of styles available today is absolutely astonishing. take some time and learn to appreciate something other than guitars with drums...

Garage Rock happened in the 60's* and Punk was a genre that started in the 70's, and Garbage was an Alternative Rock band in the 90's.

It seems like you have this hostile attitude towards good music.

There are plenty of modern bands that give obvious nods to older rock groups and fit your criteria...

White Stripes, Priestess, Airborne, Maylene & The Sons Of Disaster, Wolfmother, Mastodon, Revolution Mother, Cancer Bats, Queens Of The Stone Age, The Bloody Hollies, The Apples In Stereo, plenty of others.

It shocks me that you can't find something you like, I don't think you're looking very hard.

Queen was better in the 70's when they swore not to use synthesizers.

I like a few modern bands, White Stripes and QOTSA are brilliant. But for the most part I prefer older ones.
