You can record a lofi album on any equipment really. It's more about sound quality than pvrity.

No one uses the studio like they did anymore. Recorded music is only around a hundred years old so we're talking about 40% of the entire existence of recorded music.

As far as it not being modern music big picture wise I know so much more about the history of western music than you do I’m shocked by your audacity to even go there.

I agree but if elph wanted to be literal or purist with the terminology I felt like that could be a productive framework for discussion.

You could say that I'm the one being literal here. Makes more sense to me to call things with low fidelity lofi and call the pwre stuff DIY.

I feel what elph's getting at to a degree. In the modern day, lofi home recordings often strike me as more self-conscious than the organic quasi-unintentional nature that it used to have. Especially in lofi prevalent genres like black metal or indie pop.
