Alter Bridge - In Loving Memory

Thanks for all you’ve done
I’ve missed you for so long
I can’t believe you’re gone and
You still live in me
I feel you in the wind
You guide me constantly

I’ve never knew what it was
To be alone...no
Cause you were always
There for me
You were always home waiting
But now I come home
And I miss your face so
Smiling down on me
I close my eyes to see

(CHORUS)
And I know
You’re a part of me
And it’s your song
That sets me free
I sing it while
I feel I can’t hold on
I sing tonight
'Cause it comforts me

I carry the things
That remind me of you
In loving memory of
The one that was so true
Your were as kind as you could be
And even though you’re gone
You still mean the world to me

I’ve never knew what it was
To be alone...no
Cause you were always
There for me
You were always home waiting
But now I
Come home and it's not the same no
It feels empty and alone
I just can't believe you're gone

CHORUS

I’m glad he set you free from sorrow
But I’ll still love you more tomorrow
And you will be here
With me still

All you did you did with feeling
And you always found a meaning
And you always will
And you always will
And you always will

CHORUS

This song was written by Mark Tremonti in memory of his mother who dided last year.

Favorite Lyrics

This has probably been done before, but I figured we could have a thread for just posting some of your favorite lyrical snippets (not whole songs) from some of your favorite authors. Here's some of mine, off the top of my head:

"We are artists
We are mathematicians
Some of us hold extremely
High positions

But we are tired
We're hardly breathing
And we're free
Go tell the women that we’re leaving

We're sick and tired
Of all this self-serving grieving
All we wanted was a little consensual rape in the morning
And maybe a bit more in the evening

We are scientists
We do genetics
We leave religion
To the psychos and fanatics"

Grinderman - Go Tell The Women

"Unbind your mind
There is no time
To lick your stamps
And paste them in
DISCORPORATE
And we will begin . . .WAH WAH!
Flower power sucks!"

Frank Zappa & The Mothers - Absolutely Free

"All I need is one true friend
I want total peace of mind
To leave the hurting world behind
I'm not scared; I swear I'm free
It may collapse the fear
That burns to bring the worst from me
Much too smart to sound uptight
Not to cheat what I deserve
Nothing hidden and nothing wasted
So far from dead, frustrated
Too smart to ask for more
This is all I've waited for
Nothing hidden and nothing wasted
Nothing past the love I've tasted"

Sebadoh - Total Peace

"Like most babies smell like butter
His smell smelled like no other
He was born scentless and senseless
He was born a scentless apprentice

Every wet nurse refused to feed him
Electrolytes smell like semen
I promise not to sell your perfumed secrets
There are countless formulas for pressing flowers"

Nirvana - Scentless Apprentice

Both by Opeth:

1. Windowpane

Blank face in the windowpane
Made clear in seconds of light
Disappears and returns again
Counting hours, searching the night

Might be waiting for someone
Might be there for us to see
Might be in need of talking
Might be staring directly at me

Inside plays a lullaby
Slurred voice over children cries
On the inside

Haunting loneliness in the eye
Skin covering a secret scar
His hand is waving a goodbye
There's no response or action returned

There is deep prejudice in me
Outshines all reason inside
Given dreams all ridden with pain
And projected unto the last

2. In My Time Of Need

I can't see the meaning of this life I'm leading
I try to forget you as you forgot me
This time there is nothing left for you to take, this is goodbye

Summer is miles and miles away
And no one would ask me to stay

And I should contemplate this change
To ease the pain
And I should step out of the rain
Turn away

Close to ending it all, I am drifting through the stages
Of the rapture born within this loss
Thoughts of death inside, tear me apart from the core of my soul

Summer is miles and miles away
And no one would ask me to stay

And I should contemplate this change
To ease the pain
And I should step out of the rain
Turn away

At times the dark's fading slowly
But it never sustains
Would someone watch over me
In my time of need

The barons of the industry put inspiration on Hitler’s tongue
Then the century crashed hard with a loud sound like a starting gun
It’s a race for acquisition and to make more things that glow
I’ve got a knack for dodging bullets and flying zeroes
So I act like I am rich, try and make it my whole look
Because poor people don’t exist when times are good

Mozart’s foster parents put cigarettes out in his ears
When he got old enough to stutter, he said, “I don’t listen but I-I-I, I can hear”
The eloquence of traffic, yeah, the mill pond’s sad lament
It’s a requiem of moments, I keep living through them
But where is the monster in the closet? I can’t find the hangman inside his hood
I guess evil don’t exist when times are good

Doctor Oppenheimer winced when he felt the broken piece of his pacemaker
Unbuttoned his shirt on a subway platform, clutching his chest while his vision blurred
He saw the bane of his creation. The destroyer of the world
Yeah, truth can lead to solace or a lifelong bender
It’s like wading through a wasteland where a town you loved once stood
You just cry each time you think of when times were good

Napoleon’s tailor dressed him in a giant hat and funny platform shoes
He said, “Anyone can be a hero, you just got to force people to look up to you”
So when you’re talking on the hotline to a suicidal soul
Don’t let your voice sound like hot coffee, more like a scented pillow
And strive for understanding over being understood
Just don’t let yourself forget when the times get good
When times get good
When times get good

"Have you heard about this house?
Inside, a thousand voices talk
and that talk echoes around and around
The windows reverberate
The walls have ears
A thousand saxophone voices talk

You should hear how we syllogize
You should hear
about how Babel fell and still echoes away,
how we idolize,
theorize,
syllogize,
in the dark,
in the heart"

Hawkwind-Utopia.

The lyrics repeated endlessly:

If You Want To Get Into It, You Gotta Get Out Of It...

Pure simplistic brilliance.

I believe that if stones could dream they'd dream of being laid side-by-side piece-by-piece and turned into a castle for some towering queen they're unable to know and when that queen's daughter came of age I think she'd be lovely and stubborn and brave and suitors would journey from kingdoms away just to make themselves known and I think that I know the bitter dismay of a lover who brought fresh bouquets every day when she turned him away to remember some knave who once gave just one rose, one day, years ago.

Oh father high in heaven -- smile down upon your son
whose busy with his money games -- his women and his gun.
Oh Jesus save me!
And the unsung Western hero killed an Indian or three
and made his name in Hollywood
to set the white man free.
Oh Jesus save me!
If Jesus saves -- well, He'd better save Himself
from the gory glory seekers who use His name in death.
Oh Jesus save me!
I saw him in the city and on the mountains of the moon --
His cross was rather bloody --
He could hardly roll His stone.
Oh Jesus save me!

"The Curse Of Millhaven" - Nick Cave

I live in a town called Millhaven
And it's small and it's mean and it's cold
But if you come around just as the sun goes down
You can watch the whole town turn to gold
It's around about then that I used to go a-roaming
Singing La la la la La la la lie
All God's children they all gotta die
My name is Loretta but I prefer Lottie
I'm closing in on my fifteenth year
And if you think you have seen a pair of eyes more green
Then you sure didn't see them around here
My hair is yellow and I'm always a-combing
La la la la La la la lie
Mama often told me we all got to die
You must have heard about The Curse Of Millhaven
How last Christmas Bill Blake's little boy didn't come home
They found him next week in One Mile Creek
His head bashed in and his pockets full of stones
Well, just imagine all the wailing and moaning
La la la la La la la lie
Even little Billy Blake's boy, he had to die
Then Professor O'Rye from Millhaven High
Found nailed to his door his prize-winning terrier
Then next day the old fool brought little Biko to school
And we all had to watch as he buried her
His eulogy to Biko had all the tears a-flowing
La la la la La la la lie
Even God's little creatures, they have to die
Our little town fell into a state of shock
A lot of people were saying things that made little sense
Then the next thing you know the head of Handyman Joe
Was found in the fountain of the Mayor's residence
Foul play can really get a small town going
La la la la La la la lie
Even God's children all have to die
Then, in a cruel twist of fate, old Mrs Colgate
Was stabbed but the job was not complete
The last thing she said before the cops pronounced her dead
Was, "My killer is Loretta and she lives across the street!"
Twenty cops burst through my door without even phoning
La la la la La la la lie
The young ones, the old ones, they all gotta die
Yes, it is I, Lottie. The Curse Of Millhaven
I've struck horror in the heart of this town
Like my eyes ain't green and my hair ain't yellow
It's more like the other way around
I gotta pretty little mouth underneath all the foaming
La la la la La la la lie
Sooner or later we all gotta die
Since I was no bigger than a weavil they've been saying I was evil
That if "bad" was a boot that I'd fit it
That I'm a wicked young lady, but I've been trying hard lately
O **** it! I'm a monster! I admit it!
It makes me so mad my blood really starts a-going
La la la la La la la lie
Mama always told me that we all gotta die
Yeah, I drowned the Blakey kid, stabbed Mrs. Colgate, I admit
Did the handyman with his circular saw in his garden shed
But I never crucified little Biko, that was two junior high school psychos
Stinky Bohoon and his friend with the pumpkin-sized head
I'll sing to the lot, now you got me going
La la la la La la la lie
All God's children have all gotta die
There were all the others, all our sisters and brothers
You assumed were accidents, best forgotten
Recall the children who broke through the ice on Lake Tahoo?
Everyone assumed the "Warning" signs had followed them to the bottom
Well, they're underneath the house where I do quite a bit of stowing
La la la la La la la lie
Even twenty little children, they had to die
And the fire of '91 that razed the Bella Vista slum
There was the biggest ****-fight this country's ever seen
Insurance companies ruined, land lords getting sued
All cause of wee girl with a can of gasoline
Those flames really roared when the wind started blowing
La la la la La la la lie
Rich man, poor man, all got to die
Well I confessed to all these crimes and they put me on trial
I was laughing when they took me away
Off to the asylum in an old black Mariah
It ain't home, but you know, it's ****ing better than jail
It ain't such bad old place to have a home in
La la la la La la la lie
All God's children they all gotta die
Now I got shrinks that will not rest with their endless Rorschach tests
I keep telling them they're out to get me
They ask me if I feel remorse and I answer, "Why of course!
There is so much more I could have done if they'd let me!"
So it's Rorschach and Prozac and everything is groovy
Singing La la la la La la la lie
All God's children they all have to die
La la la la La la la lie
I'm happy as a lark and everything is fine
Singing La la la la La la la lie
Yeah, everything is groovy and everything is fine
Singing La la la la La la la lie
All God's children they gotta die
