The Ups and Downs of Recorded Music

Yesterday in Manchester, England a cloud had desended. A personal Cloud that is. It came and out stayed its welcome over my head.

Generally I'm not a depressive and I always try and see the positives if I'm feeling a bit low. It happens to most if not all people I guess. You know like a "bad hair day", a "bad Day at the office" or just generally Can't be arsed to Smile.

Anyway Yesterday I felt a bit low a bit pissed off that its Saturday and Its a beautiful day and beer Gardens are gonna be buzzin and much laughs and socialising outthere. My Problem being I'm skint at Moment. Works a bit quiet so I've managed to do the important stuff like pay bills and budget and hold off certain bills until later. Basically manage my own finances. You realise Its a struggle but wedo our best Yeah?

Anyway I'm skint I know I'm going nowhere out tonight. I've got a bottle of Brandy but no mixer so I'm expecting the hard liquor effect and luckily I've got Smokes to well smoke off.

The positives from this day was a determination to Spring Clean top to bottom even though it is Summer. I can do this and think clear and Creativly providing I have a Soundtrack going on loud in the house.

The dilemma is when choosing music to suit your mood can be misguided. If you feel up and happy you can just select a personal anthem that makes you just wanna sing. Or an upbeat number that makes you wanna just freak out. Never to old to dance. I'd like the idea of my corpse being wired up to my favourite tunes with electrodes that made me dance horizontaly in my coffin so friends and a family could have a last dance with me in the The Chapel of Rest or whereever I might be at that time. I'd prefer my own living room or somewhere else. In the Garden. Anywhere in Bohemia would do.

I'm going off track and I'm meant to be concerned with yesterdays selection. I wanted tune after tune that I didn't have to change other than put in the next album once that had finished.

I hoovered, I Potwashed, I did two big Washes in Complete cycles from the Dirty Washing Basket to the washing line to the clean piles in each of the rooms of the owners, ie my Family. I cooked. Filed Stuff. Allsorts. I Created Art. It was Productive.

The Soundtrack was as follows...

...In order of play...

...please note I enjoyed the experience...

...I wanted music that I considered neither up nor down...

...I wanted albums that I'd not listened to a great deal straight through...

...A mission to Clean, Think, organise, & Create...

...Our Earthly Pleasures MAXIMO PARK... Sam's Town KILLERS... Nude SUEDE... Because of the Times KINGS OF LEON... Unplugged in New York NIRVANA... Coming Up SUEDE... The Bends RADIOHEAD... Henry's Dream NICK CAVE & THE BAD SEEDS... Frank AMY WINEHOUSE... The Diary of a Band Volumes 1 & 2 JOHN MAYAL & THE BLUESBREAKERS.

Oddly enough, I find that most music helps me whenever i'm feeling down, whether it's depressing or not. Heavy sounding, misery-laden music often helps me get out all my negative emotions in one big burst session. Give me a sense that I can relate to something. On the other side, poppy up-tempo music helps me 'forget' my bad feelings.

Music is definitely healing.
