I think of Leonard Cohen, but not because I'm "old". Sometimes the age is not that important. Thanks to a song, many people have started to know a certain singer (or a poet, or other kind of artists) from other country...

I don't know if Damien Dempsey is well known outside of Ireland, but I've never seen him mentioned here, so here's a few of his songs:

From Canada, I'd like to see these acts become well known abroad:

K'naan. Just the one cd but it is a damn fine record.

The Trews. Straight ahead rock and roll.

Great Big Sea. Awesome folk/party band.

Crystal Shawanda. Not sure if her albums merit getting known widely but she's got an awesome voice (main problem I have with her albums is they are Nashville pop but on stage she has a raspy rock country going that I love).
