You don't dig The Stripes, I don't dig The Ramones (the Kiss of Punk imo)

Having devoured all that was so awesome with music from say 1969-1975, punk, disco, and new wave all sucked badly.

I've grown to really like a lot of music from that late 70s new music wave - but not The Ramones. Television DESTROYS them.

and I lived through some huge developments in hiphop and electronic music but that doesn't mean I know anything about it

You use the phrase 'lived through xxx music' much more casually than I do then.

I had already been playing guitar a few years and was dabbling in everything to try and land gigs - lots of punk included. It was also EVERYWHERE, having really landed hard with a lot of my peers.

Just happen not to dig The Ramones much.
