I Like em' all, but here are some of my soul faves
Ray Charles - Shake your tail Feathers Marvin ***e - Lets get it on Otis Redding - Try a Little Tenderness Al Green - Let's Stay Together Sam Cooke- A Change is Gonna Come & Don't Know Much About History Ike and Tina Turner - Proud Mary |
All top notch Soul singers. Hard to choose.
Smokey Robinson - The best songwriter of the four. 'The Tracks Of My Tears', being my favourite. Sam Cooke - His greatest record was 'A Change Is Gonna Come' (the flip side to the single 'Shake') released after his death. Marvin Gaye - 'Lets Get It On'. Also his duets with Tammy Terrell, 'Aint No Mountain High Enough', 'Your Precious Love', 'Your All I Need To Get By'. Otis Redding - Only 26 when he died and yet his songs sound like they came from a man with so much more life experience! Dont know where to start! A man with real Soul, his records full of emotion. Hard to believe he only ever had one top twenty hit with 'Dock Of The Bay' |

Reading back on this list I seem to have missed out Al Green and put in Otis Redding instead. Still can't choose a favourite from the list but Al Green certainly belongs on it (as do many others). I'd say Al Green's best was 'Call Me (Come Back Home)'...sad/painful/uplifting...Soul's "loveman". |
Without doubt the greatest singer ever is the legendary Sam Cooke.
Sam Cooke: That's all i need to know, forever & nothing can change this love, just to name a few. Otis Redding: Try a little tenderness, dock of the bay Donny Hathaway: More than you will ever know,a song for you,put your hand in the hand Al Green: Tired of being alone, love & happiness Solomon Burke: Just out of reach, cry to me  |
3 soul tunes by Sam & Dave:
Soul Man Hold On, I'm Comin' I Thank You |
I love all these guys, but I picked Marvin Gaye
Sam Cooke- A Change Is Gonna Come Al Green- Love And Happiness Otis Redding- These Arms Of Mine (and Sittin' On The Dock Of The Bay, and Respect... hard to choose really Marvin Gaye- Let's Get It On |
Sam Cooke has a wonderful voice I could listen to all day. I only have two albums…a greatest hits and Live at Harlem Square Club and they both have been played until they’re worn out. The live album is one of the absolute best I’ve ever heard from anyone.

Al Green FTW. Call Me sounds like he is whispering sweet dirty fuck nuggets in your ears.
