Listen Along.
 

Right, I spoke about this to a couple of members the other night in the shouty who seemed to think this could be a good idea.

Basically, on another forum I post on, one of the members came up with this idea of creating a poll of a few albums.. whichever one with the most votes would be listened to by anyone who wanted to participate, but it was synchronised listening. So the idea is we all listen together in maybe an irc/tinychat channel and discuss it and whatnot, as we're all listening at the same time.

The aforementioned forum is pretty much exclusively people from the UK, so time difference hasn't been a problem there, but obviously with MB we have people from Europe/USA/Australia etc. so if this gets many hits, we should all agree on a time and I'll create a poll with 5 albums on for you all to vote. The poll will run for one week and on the seventh day I'll close the poll at midday and count the votes. The winning album will be listened to that night/day (at the agreed time, could be night here for me but day for those in the US). After the listen along is finished, any one of the participating members can volunteer to pick the next five albums and the process will start over again.

Anybody interested in giving this a whirl? I hope it doesn't die on its arse, though I feel it may.

Easy solution is to hold multiple listenings of different albums on one day, thus allowing a multitude of people in a variety of places to participate

Then do you discuss it?

You discuss it while you're listening to it (hence the irc/tinychat channel). We discuss as we listen, but obviously comments in this thread afterwards are welcomed.

I'm in if it's not at some awkward-ass time.

Actually I chatted with a few of the other geezers on here about doing some thing similar a while back, could never coordinate though - it's not too easy. But it's a good idea so good luck. Depending on the day/time/album I might participate.

We used to get a quite a few people together on tokbox so it could be possible.
