You've never laughed at a mispronunciation until you've heard someone pronounce "faux pas" as "Fawks Pass". I've even heard Louisianians do it, who are predominantly named with French sounding last names like Domangue (doh-mang) and Thibodeaux (tib-a-doh).

Speaking of French sounding, crazy ass Louisianian names, it took me the longest time to learn this one: Authement. I still don't know if I'm sayin' it right. They told me it was pronounced "Otto-mont"

Sounds like the "g" is pronounced. Like "See-gur Roas"

sigur rós - pronounciation

Kind of sounds like it but not how it's described. I think it's just an epenthesis created by Georg's accent. I wouldn't really call either pronunciations wrong.

Your Avi creeps me out! ^

Anyone know how to say Dimmu Borgir?
I just call them Dimmu, cause I don't know if it's Borgeer, Borgheer, Boargear, or what?

Why thank you :D I'm not sure what it is.. which adds to its creepy weirdness. And I'm pretty sure it's pronounced Dimmu Borgeer

More like oat-mont with a silent t, I would think (but still say mont like you would with the t...just stop short).

Janszoon 11-17-2010 05:41 AM

How about Tom Zé? Is it pronounced "zee", "zae", what?

pronounced the same way Zé Ramalho's name is pronounced; somewhere between "zey" and "zjae", the same j sound that is in Django's name only added to a "z" sound.

it's really guttural and only easy to communicate if you're actually saying it out loud to someone.
