I'd definently pick those over all this crap though.

Man am I glad that music's starting to die.

Music is not starting to die, casual music fans are just getting dumber. Simultaneously, while these lame ass songs are being created fantastic and gorgeous songs are being created. They're just not on MTV.

There's tons of good music being made. This musics just not being crammed down our throats like the more mainstream acts out there. That's how it is now and that's probably how its going to continue to be. I'm fairly content with music right now. There's something out there for everyone I think. I mean you have the underground bands doing whatever it is they are doing and you can usually find something there you like, but if you're just a music listener and not a music nut like some you can usually find your thing in the mainstream realm. I think that's how music will continue to be UNLESS something drastic happens. As bad as it may seem its truthfully not that bad. People just need to open their eyes and realize how much great music is out there. The big thing is people need to support small independent acts and small labels more. I'm guilty of not doing it myself but if we do it the bands will continue to make money so that they can continue to release albums and do a bit of touring and whatever else they need funds for. This is probably more summing up the current conditions of the music industry but that's what it seems to me will happen in the future, too.

I said that particular style of music is dieing. "That music" being crunk rap, ringtone rap, whatever the hell you want to call it. I didn't say anthing at all about music as a whole dieing. lol

Screw Crunk, one day we'll be able to eat B-flats from the air like falling snowflakes.

Fantastic, fantastic discussion going on! When I started the thread I wanted to see where members of the forum would take it and you've shown some great depth of knowledge and musical debating.

My 2 European cents.....

The internet is probably the most revolutionary tool we as humans have at our disposal ever!! Cast your mind back back even only 20 years ago....the world and technology had not made that great leap forward, and although we may had gotten to the moon, the only major difference than centuries and centruries before that had helped develop things along the ways was 'electricity' and bit of computer power......People can have in there homes now the same computing power that helped navigate us to the moon, if they really wanted and at a reasonable price.

We have the privilege of living in what will be known in the history books as the 'Internet Revolution'! The changes happening now and players in the public arena will become legends of the time.

The internet's great gift is that it has gotten people talking, but just talking sharing, people from every corner of the world. It is with this increase in sharing and rapid exchange that learning and innovation can occur at rates never before seen in history. Crowd accelerated innovation is now spinning the globe.

What does this all mean for music...well the proof is right in front of your eyes, you may be reading this where ever you are in the world, an internet cafe on the Thailand islands, a bedroom in middle america, or on a bus going to work somewhere in France...where ever you are?! We have shared and exchanged ideas and no matter how small have influenced the other.....

Music is and will be no different, if anything it will only get better, YES there will always be the commercialization and mainstream offerings, but the fact is as more and more of the worlds emerging developing classes get on-line (an estimated 2 billion and counting in next 10-15 years), this space will only get bigger and better, filled with more music and influences and musical innovations. As the great populations of the world connect the future of music in my opinion is BRIGHT!

So you're prepared to listen to about 100 albums just to find one good one?

At least I am ready to have me one good album at the cost of 99 bad ones, especially since I easier than ever can skip through to the 100th.

Well, you're trading that one good album out of one hundred for a music industry that will push you a cavalcade of solid yet unoriginal works, of the few "good" works they chose to push.

Even when the industry wasn't 100% controlled by monopolies most of the best of the best remained in somewhat obscurity. In fact, thanks to the Internet, we can actually appreciate those obscurities in retrospect more than the listeners of their time ever could. After all, if it's truly ahead of it's time, it's bound to fail on it's initial release.
