The whole thing about being sued for downloading songs
Recently I heard people are being taken to court because they have downloaded songs when it's banned... now I'm awfully confused about the whole affair... does this mean millions of people are gonna be fined??? I don't get it. I download from Limewire... I haven't heard anyone get into trouble so far... has anyone got the facts on the matter???

But I'm sure you know that they are focused on file sharers with large music libraries. As long as you are not sharing 100s of songs, the chances of a lawsuit are slim. Usually the lawsuits are within 100s-1000s, not millions. For those who do get one, they're f*cked. You'll either go to jail(not likely) or pay a ridiculous fine. |
Alls I know is that you shouldnt be able to get fined for just downloading, its only if youre sharing your files. I only have kazaa (yes yes, Im stuck in the past, I know) so I cant just turn file sharing off... Tis fine by me, it just got on my nerves when someone else was downloading my stuff anyways.
|
I really really really really hate Kazaa. i had to re-install windows just to get it (and all its spyware) off my computer. But I stopped downloading all together recently. I miss the old days of loitering in front of the record stores.
|
I hate kazaa too.. Too much spyware, everythings too slow, most of the songs you get off it are f*cked anyway. I should get something else, but meh... Never use it much anyway.
|
^ well everyone loves Limewire, you might try that, it's better than Kazaa and SUPER DOOPER fast. But I love soulseek, it never gave me problems.
|
sue them back for breaching your privacy.
|
I only download stuff I`m not sure about buying anyway.
If I like it I buy it if I don`t I delete it |
I download all the time! I am a Lime Wire advocate! Like hookers said, it is super fast and it dosen't have too many viruses or nothin'
hey only the artists own the music and i'm sure they don't give a **** either way! it's these conformist "regulators" that wanna lay down "laws" and be big shots,,,,go for it, it would never stand up in court......could you imagine? "Anarchy Doll, you are charged with illegally downloading all of the Dead Kennedy's music.....we sentance you to death!" LOL! |
Right. Ok. Thank you for the feeback but I'm still a touch bewildered by this dreadful 'fining' mp3 sharers business. It makes no sense. Surely the people who are to be fined can counter sue? I have a few hundred songs from Limewire, and some are automatically uploaded to my 'shared' folder. I don't know, we fans get one up over the artists and record label and they begin with their hissy fits getting their knickers in a twist over it all.

hello i'm new and i want to talk about anything about music. :ar_15s:

Damn I should have done that too

See I may have been annoying in the beginning but come on, you can't get much more annoying than that. Back to topic though. Yes, it really scared me when the government First started fining people for illegally downloading music because I had both Kazaa (which I miss) and Napster!! I had Limewire but I had to shut it down because of so many viruses infecting my shared files. This whole problem is a load of rubbish.

if you guys are scared and looking for alternatives, you know, you COULD always buy the albums. Far fetched I know. But, look into Half.com. They have used CDs, and you can find good prices. Or start buying vinyls- best way to get music, stickers, and posters all in one for a low price |
Well that's a real nice tip and I don't think I'll be downloading any more sh*te. I just saved my 600 or so songs onto multiple cds and deleted all the crap on my computer. It took me another month to fully clean my computer from all the junk Limewire did to it (or the files). I bettteerrr start lOOking into those used cds..........
|
either way, you should be fine. They cant rationally go after all the millions and millions of people who use those programs and download songs. I think they're going after people who download and share like clockwork, and have music libraries in the 10,000s on their computers.
|
ive got over a thousand downloaded songs on my comp at home (around 1700 if im correct), I share (after all, i have alot of friends bands downloaded and want to get it out to people that wouldnt normally be able to get their hands on their music) and dont see a threat at all. I use Kazaa Lite (way better than the original) I dont get a chance to use it much anymore but every now and then when i get a song stuck in my head that i dont already have, ill spend a couple secs downloading it. I also turn it off when im done to prevent people from uploading from my computer all the time, My neighbor got an email warning him a few months ago, but he was illegally downloading and trading software, not music. He didnt get into any trouble, just an email warning him to stop. I wouldnt be to concerned about it, and ya, i agree with whoever said " if your that worried, turn your share off" or something like that.

Looking for a good laugh? Download soulseek and use their chat rooms. The idiots on there make musicbanter users seem like saints.
|
well whoever invented downloading should be the one in trouble.. we're just..you know.. doing what everyone does...
