In general, how much is a great album worth to you?

In other words, how much is a great album (in common cd format) worth to you? We're talking albums like London Calling, Beggar's Banquet, Low, Reign In Blood, OK Computer, In The Aeroplane Over The Sea, etc. $8? $12? $14?

Sansa Stark 04-07-2011 09:05 PM

Um, not **** because I can easily make a copy

DoctorSoft 04-07-2011 09:14 PM

I would spend about $100 to get the experience that a "top ten of all time album" gives me. I love finding stuff that almost changes the way you think about music.

Alfred 04-07-2011 09:41 PM

Pretty sure I bought my copy of London Calling for about 10 bucks. :D

I'm with you. If I could have music exactly the way I wanted it, I would be willing to pay copious amounts of money.

CanwllCorfe 04-07-2011 09:58 PM

Uh, probably around $10-12.

Howard the Duck 04-08-2011 01:24 AM

got Loveless cassette for 4 quid at a bargain bin

got Loveless pirated CD for RM5 - USD1.50

If it's an album I want, by a band that I enjoy, it's more about the experience than the price. So my answer? It changes.

s_k 04-08-2011 03:52 AM

Hmmm... If it's, like theuglyorgan says, a life-changing experience (and that only happens once in a few years) up to 40 bucks. Bare in mind; A CD costs about 25 bucks here anyway. Usually I try to stay under 20 bucks. I buy records moste of the time and they are a bit cheaper than CD's for some strange reasion.
Having said that; I would only spend 40 bucks on a record, never on a CD.

My priciest CD ever was about 28 bucks, being Des visages des figures by noir Désir. The record would be about 50 euro's which I think is insane. The CD wasn't available any cheaper, wherever. Then I got to the Lowlands festival and I found a pile of those CD's for 10 bucks :(

Nosferatu Man 04-08-2011 04:51 AM

Well if it was a case of buy the album or you will never be able to hear it again sort of scenario then I think I would pay a lot of money.

Blood On The Tracks or Blonde on Blonde would probably be worth 2-300 euro to me!

Howard the Duck 04-08-2011 05:10 AM

most expensive was Dylan's Bootleg Series 1-3

about RM300 - USD120

for some life-changing experience, my limit's RM75 (single disc) - about USD20

That record cost me about 8 dollars back in 2003 :)

Janszoon 04-08-2011 07:22 AM

Well it doesn't really matter if the Dub is from 1973 or 1991, it's still Dub :D.
