Ark Music Factory

So no doubt most of you are aware of that horrible viral video out at the moment by Rebecca Black, 'Friday.' What not many people know is that Ark Music Factory, those responsible for writing and producing the video, are in fact not a real record label. They are simply a company where rich, star-struck parents pay thousands of dollars for them to make a video of their child. Usually the songs are not released and in the past people have not paid much attention to them, however for some reason Black's just happened to get extremely popular on YouTube.

Just wondering what other people's thoughts are on Ark Music Factory? I think it's stupid and any parent who pays thousands of dollars just for a stupid keepsake video of their child is idiotic. However, I also wish that people would realise that Ark Music was never intended to be a functioning record label.

Also, now that Ark Music Factory has been thrown into the spotlight thanks to 'Friday,' I think it's very dangerous as ALL of these videos are of CHILDREN (as that is what the company does - makes videos of children to make them feel like stars, or whatever). These children, who have little control over what is happening, are getting abused and receiving threats from fully grown ADULTS. It's fair enough that adults resent the pop industry and want to make fun of it - I resent the industry and make fun of it all the time. But I think that venting these frustrations on the children that have recently become victim to this is a very dangerous and inappropriate scenario.

What do you guys think?

Sun records was actually a record label which offered recording contracts. Ark Music Factory is just a company that makes single once-off music videos of children after their parents have paid thousands of dollars.

s_k 04-25-2011 01:59 AM

That's why I added 21st century :D.
Well, you're right. But it is a cheap way to fame all over again.
The intentions are different, obviously.

I sort of wonder why they call it Ark. Any idea?

Does anyone else agree that this is worse than 'Friday'??? So redundant and, well, creepy!

Maybe, but are any of those girls at ARK going to become as famous as Elvis or Johnny Cash, or anyone else who got their start at Sun Records? I think not. Sam Philips was a genius at knowing how to market good music. These people are not.

Exactly. These people do not know how to market good music simply because that is not their aim. Their aim is to make once-off videos for clients and get a lot of money from it. None of these kids at Ark are going to become as successful because Ark are not a 'real' record label per se, so their clients are not going to get on a contract which allows them to continuously release music.

I haven't seen the video in question, nor will I, but from reading your description:

As a music business: s h i t e

As a business in general: Legitimate but questionable

Those who should be called to account however, is the parents.

hahaha I need that on iTunes!

but yeah the video is creepy as hell and those two douchebags are just grinning while they are making so much money off of this idea/company.

I don't blame the company at all, the responsibility falls squarely on the parent's shoulders.

I think the majority of people that send death threats and just completely uncalled for comments don't know shit about music. I see more "If that was Bieber (insert horrible thing from video here)" comments than you can count. It's fucking ridiculous how demented and fucked up some of these guys are. Worst of all, they don't have any justifiable reason to attack these kids as they aren't exactly music connoisseurs. I'm just so fucking sick of people saying horrible things to people they don't know, let alone someone else's kid. Just, why? Why are people so stupid and cruel?

^Does anyone actually take random youtube comments seriously though?

You'd be surprised but there are loads of people that take them seriously it's like they don't know what the internet is or maybe they forgot

I've got no beef with Ark. If rich parents want to throw their money at Ark and have them produce a video for their kid, more power to Ark. I actually think all things considered they produce some pretty decent videos. Why a parent would want to do this is beyond me.

As for the death threats and stuff...It's the internet. If the parents or kids are taking the threats and insults seriously, they need to check themselves.

Astronomer 04-27-2011 04:00 AM

Noone takes YouTube comments seriously but Rebecca Black has had people find her home address and phone number where they have been sending death/rape threats. That, I think, is ****ed up. Otherwise yeah I'd agree with you, the internet is the internet.

Not really, but I'm just sick of people bringing up Bieber on every video on youtube. It's pretty stupid.

I won't argue with that.

Paedantic Basterd 04-27-2011 05:12 PM

A thirteen year old kid shouldn't be expected to "get over" a death threat because "it's the internet". People on the internet do tend to be degenerate fuckbags, but that knowledge doesn't make them right in their actions.

Thom Yorke 04-27-2011 05:17 PM

I was talking more about the sheer quantity of hateful comments she was getting on youtube. It becomes alot less personalized when it's like that I think. And I doubt she'd be reading through them all anyways.

It's impossible to keep up with the comments for even 5 seconds. There's like 10 new ones every second!
