As for female singers, I'm not a fan of most, especially in rock music. I find their voices are better suited for styles of music i.e. Country or Electronica. I'm not saying there aren't talented female singers out there, but they're rare, and they're normally poorly placed and/or paired with inferior musicians. |

Trip Hop works almost exclusively with female vocals. Male vocals rarely come close to replicating the feel of the music.
I have a lot Female vocal music and generally find it much more conducive to what I look for in music regarding emotion and atmosphere. I find far fewer male vocalists able to hold their own with their voice alone and they seem to work a lot better in groups as opposed to solo artists whereas female solo vocals are far more expressive. There are exceptions to the rule in both cases but if you fail to be moved by voices such as Aretha Franklin, Nina Simone, Edie Brickell, Tracey Thorne, Natalie Merchant, Yasuko Onuki, Bjork, Kate Bush, Tori Amos, PJ Harvey, Ari Up, Tracey Chapman, Moira Brennan, Asa, Dot Allison, Jesca Hoop, Linda Perhacs, Regina Spektor and Sarah McClachlan then you are seriously missing out on some exceptional talent. |

I can say i dont judge about female singer in a band because there are a lot of female singers that are good and nice to listen. i think its not about that they are female singer in a band but its about on how they sang the song that make people appreciate it.

But thanks to ever added the new option, was that so hard? |

Well I did some (cursory) listening and sorry to say I'm no convert. Linda Perhacs sounded interesting though. |
I don't think it really matters. Hell, I feel awful for thinking Elizabeth Hart is hot and how just her presence alone really contributes to Psychic Ills. I mean, her basslines really flow, and contribute to the bands sound and the amazing rhythm section they had early on. She has an awesome sense of style and pays a lot for her clothes, so I would call her a fashionista.
A lot of the bands I listen to have women, so it's not too odd when I see girls in groups. I mean, My bloody Valentine, Pia Fraus, Melt-Banana, Mahogany, Stereolab, A Sunny Day In Glasgow, Beach House, and a bunch of other groups I really like rely on women to make their sound. I really don't see why there is a thread on this as a good deal of women are in bands. People probably just aren't looking hard enough. |
I think Joan Jett and Cherrie Curry are damn hot and great singers they are a great example (during the Runaways days) of being a fierce all-girl group.

^^ouch! that sounds like my tooth getting drilled
still like it anyways |
I listen to much more male oriented bands. I have nothing against any women bands or singers though. One of my favorite sludge/stoner bands is Acid King, Lori S' voice is fine. Plenty of great women bands out I don't see why people would be "hatin'" on them.

I have no preconceived preference for gender of singers, as long as the singer is good and one I like.:tramp:

Can't believe the backwardness (s_k) of this thread. |
I think the chick in Comus is a ****ing awesome singer. I should listen to more music with female vocalists.
The Melt-Banana vocalist's energy practically leaps off of the songs, too. |
I have no problem with female singers, as long as I like their voice/sound. Pretty much the same as male singers.

They sure don't make 'em like this anymore...

Really introspective lyrics and amazing vocalists. Each of them is the reason behind me liking the bands they front, because they're all so extremely talented and amazing live. |
I appreciate male and female singers. I've never even consciously considered the sex of a singer when choosing music. However, surveying my recently played music (and taking into account the singers/bands I listen to on a regular basis) the majority are in fact male.
I was curious, so I took a look at a few of my most recent playlists. Out of 80 songs I had on the first one : 58 were male, 20 were female, 2 were mixed. Out of 36 songs I had on the second one: 32 were male, 4 were female. I also feel like the style of music I'm listening to has an impact on whether I gravitate toward male or female singers. For example, when it comes to say... indie/alternative, country, and hip-hop/rap, I tend to find myself primarily listening to male singers. Whereas when it comes to pop, I listen to female singers with much more frequency than male singers. Bottom line though, my musical life certainly wouldn't be complete without female singers. |
Come to think of it, there's one thing worse than female singers.
Duets *Shrudders* I friggin' hate duets. |

I think that's been covered elsewhere pretty extensively. I repeat: distinguishing (or 'separating' for those who may not know English very well) a person's talent from their sex or gender is the most ridiculous thing I've read on MB (and that's saying something). |

Do You Like or Dislike Women in Bands/as Singers?
As Einstein said, "everything is relative". Because, a priori, it doesn't matter to me if the boy kisses the girl or the girl is kissed by the boy (actually, isn't it the same thing?)..... or the girl kisses the boy.... the girl kisses another girl.... the boy kisses another boy.... the boy kisses a nanny goat... (well, in that last case... maybe not). |

woman vocalists can do so many things that men can't.
She & Him is prob the best example of how elegant female vocals can be. Fu<kin love it |

No matter if they sing in Gaelic, English, Breton, French or Galician. Many songs seem to be perfect for a female voice. There are many good instrumentalists too. These two are Máiréad Nesbitt (violin) and Susana Seivane (bagpipes): |
Amy Lee of Evanescence is amazingly talented. I had the pleasure of being on tour with her and Seether in South Africa.

i think only The New Pornographers (when Neko sings) and Blondie have the greatest of my admiration
