Music/Music Video Censorship

I'm sure that there has been a thread made about this subject in the past, but it didn't come up on google when I looked it up.

The Parents Television Council is apparently in the process of attempting to ban Rihanna's video for "Man Down" where she is sexually assaulted and kills the man responsible. According to some of the parents on this council, it is a horrible form of executed murder etcetc.
What do you guys think of this? In my personal opinion, I honestly think that there are worse things on television than this music video and I think that banning this video on primetime television is taking away from the artist as well. This is the second video, if I'm not mistaken, of Rihanna's that has been considered for a ban by this Council.
What do you guys think about this?
Here's a video complaining about the situation (Comedy mostly):

Here is "Man Down" by Rihanna:

They're not the one's that actually do the banning. Though they do get as many old, prudish Americans they can find to complain to the FCC about almost anything. I don't think this video will/should be banned. Though networks like MTV have a long history for banning videos some for ridiculous reasons i.e. Neil Young's This Note's For You

This is what they ban? Freaking Christ, I've seen way more 'horrific' things in music videos. Especially in the 90s.

Not only are there much worse things on television, but there are much worse things in music videos.

Like the music.

I know they don't do it, but they're obnoxious nonetheless. And Kingsley's right. Maybe they should spend more time raising their kids and less time watching television to decide what to ban.

This is GREAT marketing for anyone who gets banned. When does banning **** ever work, I mean really? Kids will be frothing at the mouth for that kinda stuff.

Arya Stark 06-11-2011 09:43 PM

I was thinking the same thing.
It also shows she's making an impact, doing something shocking.

BastardofYoung 06-11-2011 09:49 PM

^ exsactly.

Always silly to me that these things get cencored or banned.

if this was never banned by anybody.. I see no reason why that Rihanna video should be:

but you know, i guess it is one thing for a man to kill a woman and bury her, that is okay.. but when a woman takes revenge on a man for abusing her, that is just going to far.

yeah, up yours standards !
