Is Anyone else obsessive about their iTunes playcounts?

I know I am. I always have to add the plays myself when I listen to it someplace else. I guess I kinda love knowing EXACTLY how many times I've listened to an album, but I've been trying to overcome this obsession because it's stressful and overall pointless. Any tips to get over it? Anyone else have it?

Get a last.fm account and compare your amount of plays to some of the members here. Some crazy mother****ers with over 300,000 plays, maybe it will de-motivate you or something...Or just take the plays tab off iTunes.

Wait, over 300,000 plays for a single song or album?

The most I've ever listened to a single song is like 80.

I used to be kind of obsessive about my iTunes playcounts but that was when iTunes was the only music player I used. These days I'm listening to music on at least 3 different sources; my iPod (which goes towards iTunes plays of course), foobar2000 (with Windows) and Banshee (with Ubuntu), so I kind of just stopped caring about playcounts in music players. I am a little bit more obsessive about last.fm playcounts as all my plays go towards that and I can get a better idea of what I've listened to there. Yeah it is a pretty pointless obsession but it's always nice to keep track of what you listen to and to see your charts and stuff.

I've never really tried to get over it as such as it doesn't affect what I choose to listen to. I'm not going to listen to a certain artist or album just to increase it's playcount. I guess one way to try and get over it would be to listen to more physical formats such as CDs and vinyl, it'll help you to stop caring about iTunes plays or last.fm scrobbles etc.

Nah, plays overall. If you really want to stop stressing over it, climb on your rooftop, and scream "**** playcount", it just might work.

Most music players have a last.fm plug-in that you can download, or in some cases it's built-in, and everything that you listen to on the music player shows up on your last.fm profile.

I had no idea such a thing existed. Shows what I know!

Not anymore. I used to be, but after I lost my entire collection on my old laptop I stopped caring. Now I'm more worried about having everything tagged the way that I like it.

For me, play counts are skewed, as I have a tendency to skip to the next song when one song is getting near the end, so it doesn't really give a true representation.

GENTLEMEN, BEHOLD!

I could care less about play counts.
