SellaBand to fund your music?

First post, woop!

Just read that Francis Rodino raised $50,000 using SellaBand to record his first album! No record label, awesome idea.

Was wondering do many bands use this way of funding their music? Guess it helps if you already have a lot of fans as thats where most of the money comes from.

Nope, never used that. I mainly focus on SocialMusic.com .
