Shoot from the back, take good aim, Make sure I'm dead Bang Bang 'Cause I'm a rat there's no mistake Under the bed where you sleep Crush the skull make me tame Sweep it up Hide it away No morals shown in no way explained Stupid human sh*t for brains And draw tiny pictures 'round all the days Bag and burn Bang Bang Throw your judgments across the breeze Bag and burn Bang Bang You live inside your Jesus dream Bag and burn Bang Bang Get some sleep or lie in wait Until the day I run away Forget the corpse present the case to bring me down and lose your words I'll follow you into the grave and at the gates I see the passing say, "The judge be judged, and all the rich be saved." I throw my curse all across your days And draw tiny pictures 'round all the days Bag and burn Bang Bang Throw your judgments across the breeze Bag and burn Bang Bang You live inside your Jesus dream Bag and burn Bang Bang And draw tiny pictures 'round all the days Throw your judgments across the breeze Watch them float off to never be saved You live inside your Jesus dream |
I am going to have to go with a local band that broke up a long time ago when I practically was a kid. Might not be everyone's genre or cup of tea, but they had a hell of a lot of potential.

The Thrill Collective - "Ink"
I heard this song for the first time today and enjoy its fast-paced energy, glittery guitar solos, competent playing, and the lead vocalist's strong, clear singing voice. The tune is catchy and has stuck in my mind, making it my favorite of their songs. I'm impressed with the band members' skill level, especially considering their youth. As they mature, I suspect their songs will include more unique elements so that they further develop their own sound. They have a good, solid beginning and the knowledge base to do whatever they want with their music, and so I'm curious to see where their creativity leads them. Currently, their music and especially the lead singer's voice remind me somewhat of music by The Outfield, a band I like very much. Listening to this song made me happy, not only because of its upbeat sound, but also because I like to see young musicians who are inspired to make music together. :) Creating music with others is a wonderful endeavor, and I'm glad they are having that experience. Now this is certainly a good topic. Non-famous bands? Seems every artiste I listen to (okay not all, but a pretty hefty percentage) rank as unknown to most people, and yet, yes, there can be some absolutely amazing songs in there, music that in all likelihood so many will never hear.
I could list hundreds, but the likes of Shadow Gallery have some totally stunning songs, like this one from their "Room V" album (sorry, Vengangelica, you probably won't like it as it's quite long, but I'd urge you to give it a chance) Then there's the Adventures, track from their "Trading secrets with the moon" album, this is called "Bright new morning" and just one more: this is a band called Silent Edge, who have to date sadly only had the one album, "The eyes of the shadow". This is a slower track from it, called "The curse I hold". It is indeed frustrating that songs of this calibre are going unnoticed, but then I suppose if the bands got famous and everyone was into them we'd feel slightly less, I don't know, important? It's sort of like they're our bands, our secret? Though I'm sure they'd rather have the fame (and the money)... |
Last one standing by stars down/Lukas Rossi.
A great song. sorry no youtube video :( |

I really don't listen to enough music to discover many songs by non-famous bands, Trollheart...but when I do happen to hear little-known songs I enjoy, then I like to honor them here in the thread. I hope that the musicians' pleasure in making music has been its own reward, but yes, I imagine they'd also like to get Fame and Fortune. Maybe now that you've posted about them, they will. ;) Quote:

^ Thank you, Norg! :)
I admit I was surprised by some of the bands that people felt were non-famous (given the large number of YouTube views, which made these bands seem *very* famous to me). What surprises me most about this thread, though, is that there aren't more people posting about new bands made up of their friends. That's actually what I had thought (and hoped) might happen frequently here. So here is this thread, just waiting for people to post about their local bands, their best friends' great songs, etc. And...almost no one posts. :( Maybe most people don't know many musicians?? |

Martin Grech's "Guiltless" was my favorite. Disturbing. I like. :) My second favorite was I, Parasite's "Spoke" with its eerie, hypnotic sound and only 732 YouTube views! All of your song choices had wonderfully quirky elements. Quote:

Out of all my friends, I am the only one who likes this song
Also, this came up while I was looking for steampunk video games |
miRthkon is one of my favourite modern bands, and this song and the band alike are far too underrated for my liking. They just did a tour with Kayo Dot, so hopefully that spread the word a bit.
Also, Diamond Terrifier is insanely underrated. It's the solo project of Sam Hillmer, and the title track off of the debut album Kill the Self That Wants to Kill Yourself is fantastic. Can't even find on Youtube, so here's the Spotify link. Kill The Self That Wants To Kill Yourself by Diamond Terrifier on Spotify |
cool bands and stuff!
I'm really digging a girl called Kirsten amy at the mo, not usually my kinda thing I'm usually more fond of the heavier stuff, but she has a few bangers up that caught my ear, very dynamic
and miRthkon... haha, amazing, kinda reminds me of really old Incubus! |
Listen to Mental Drug by Illustrated on Youtube. EXTREMELY UNDERRATED!
|
^ Thanks for the additional songs!
I looked up Kirsten Amy and am very impressed: Kirsten Amy - "Unbelievable" (only 25 views!) Lovely Indian influences and she also has a *lovely* voice. Excellent. This song should have 2,500,000 views. Tonight I also listened to Brandon Blair's song "Turn Away" (only 42 views on YouTube!) and liked it for its catchy bass, guitar, bells, and Brandon's voice, which reminds me a little of the MGMT guys. His singing also reminds me of Devo, whom I enjoy. The song would appeal to me more if it had real drums, but I still liked it for its quirky/reggae feel and the energy of the chorus: Brandon Blair - Turn Away - YouTube I also liked the shoegazey (?) music of the band in which he plays bass, trumpet, and violin, with my favorite two songs being the following: Port Manteau - "Sailboat" (162 views) Port Manteau - "All Too Familiar" (499 views) |
Taxi Taxi - Birdful eyes, Beautiful song
Afterlives - Ever the optimist, kind of rough around the edges but I think that adds to the song |
interesting no so heard of album
Sixto Rodriguez- Cold Fact full album - YouTube |
Set to sea~The Wandering Tree.
I love this song!! All of you should go listen to it. |

* * * Yesterday I was listening to my favorite non-famous song that I posted in this thread two years ago..."Ink" by The Thrill Collective. This song is still just so damn catchy to me, a conclusion I reach after listening to it around 40 times on repeat while at work: The Thrill Collective - "Ink" Pop song that gets an A++ from me Still only 319 views since they posted it on 8/2012. ^ While listening, I wondered how The Thrill Collective is doing now. So I thought I'd find out by looking through their Youtube channel. I discovered to my excitement that they've recorded a new arrangement or remix of "Ink," which they call "Wasting Time On You." I prefer their original version, but "Wasting Time on You" is still a good song and better in some ways than the original: The Thrill Collective - "Wasting Time On You" (New version of "Ink" with a heavier, slicker, more complex sound. I give it an A) Published 1/2013 with only 245 views. Guitar soloist displays greater skill now. Wasting Time On You (formerly Ink) - YouTube Next, I saw they've made a new song that I feel is their second best song of the approximately twelve that they have recorded to date: The Thrill Collective - "These Days" (A solid song with a darker sound. I give it a B+) Published 7/2013 and only 45 views. The Thrill Collective is a solid, talented band and I hope they'll keep cranking out the tunes. These Days - YouTube |

Witching Hour UK - trad goth band
If you like traditional goth rock, here's a band to consider: Witching Hour UK.
I know little about trad goth, but I am thinking that this London band's music is very representative of that subgenre which, says Wikipedia, arose out of punk "but combines dark, often keyboard-heavy music with introspective, dark and mostly romantic lyrics." Witching Hour UK started in 1991 but are still active as a two-piece band and according to their website "are still very much trad-goth and are very proud of their heritage." I recently happened upon the band Gloom Balloon, a name that amuses me, and I found that I really enjoy quite a few of their songs because they are pretty, thoughtful, and a little funny/quirky. My favorites are these:
Gloom Balloon - "Fix The Sunshine" Gloom Balloon - "The Prettiest Song" |
Last night, while visiting a free sheet music website, I happened upon a few pieces by a 16-year-old composer and musician from Malaysia who goes by the name of Thyrai. Thyrai writes that he usually creates melodic versions of House. I was very favorably impressed by two of his electronica songs:
Thyrai - "Interlude" (169 views on Youtube as of 8-12-2015) Thyrai - "Might Be I'll Say Yes" (811 views on Youtube currently) |

I just discovered the music of a French composer, Damien Poupart-Taussat, whose piano and string compositions and performances are quite lovely yet appear not to be well known:
Damien Poupart-Taussat - "A Free Man" Damien plays the piano in this performance of his piano, string, and percussion piece. The performance includes modern dancers and struck me as very French! Currently his video has only 5 views: Damien Poupart-Taussat - "Childhood Memories" A very sweet piano and strings piece: |
