Classic Rock: Paul & Linda McCartney - Ram
Messy, stylistically all over the place, veers from twee to hard-rock, but love it all the same. Got some great memories of pissing off my neighbours playing this at insane volumes virtually constantly. Blues: John Lee Hooker - The Best Of... I don't have a lot of bona-fide albums of this stuff, so this'll have to do. House Rent Boogie is disturbingly hilarious. Jazz: Sonny Rollins - Saxophone Colossus St Thomas is one of the best anythings ever. Pop: The Beatles - A Hard Day's Night When my mind's drawing blanks, I just go for the Beatles as a reflex action. It's the best, most consistent, pure and unabashed pop album I can think of right now. Folk: Boubacar Traore - Mariana It changes a lot, but as far as my stomach for Malian folk music goes, this has been getting far and away the most plays lately. The way the acoustic guitars play off each other is just gorgeous. Country: Flying Burrito Brothers - The Gilded Palace Of Sin Features one of the strongest B-sides to any album that I've ever heard. Punk: Jello Biafra & Mojo Nixon - Prairie Home Invasion Not only one of the funniest albums I own, but the songs are just so well-performed and faithful to what they're pastiching you can't help but love it. Modern Rock: Nobunny - First Blood Sometimes just typing 'fuck yeah' is the only description an album needs. Psychedelic/Trippy (aka any favorite trippy album): Augustus Pablo - East Of the River Nile Really can't see how I'd get by without this one. Absolute class. Reggae: The Melodians - Sweet Sensation The bass on this album blows my mind every time. Hip-Hop: Techno Animal - Brotherhood Of the Bomb Industrial hip-hop =  Eardrum-burstingly awesome stuff. Electronic (yes I know this is painfully vague but who has the time to mention all sub-genres): High Contrast - True Colours Haven't been listening to a lot of this stuff lately but, frankly, there's never a bad time for vintage d'n'b, so here it is. Guilty Pleasure: Huey Lewis & the News - Fore! Screw you, this rules  Gothic/new age: Dead Can Dance - Spiritchaser Just breathtakingly fantastabulous. |

Marillion - The Thieving Magpie (this was my introduction to this band....and i think will always remain my favorite by them.....why they would even think of continuing without Fish is beyond me) Blues: eyehategod - In The Name Of Suffering (kind of sludgy but very blues in concept) Jazz: Ornette Coleman - Free Jazz (personally i just don't things get better than this in the Jazz realm) Pop: The Beatles - Rubber Soul (In My Life will always be one of my favorite songs) Folk: Current 93 - As The World Disappears (this is perfection....an amazing live album of sheer emotion.....this is Current 93 at their absolute peak) Country: Dolly Parton - The Fairest Of Them All (aside from the heart wrenching "Down From Dover" this album has all the great sass that you can only get from the one and only Dolly) Punk: (this is damn near impossible) Circle Jerks - Group Sex (just came to mind probably because of Janszoon....still not a single bad track and much better than what Black Flag had done up to that point) Modern Rock: Amplifier - The Octopus (this really blew me away the first time i heard it.....and still does) Psychedelic/Trippy (aka any favorite trippy album): Christine 23 Onna - Acid Eater (this is an absolute fuzz fest....great psychedelic rock intermixed with howling bad trips....love this to death) Reggae: hate it all....sorry....i suppose the closest is.... The Specials - The Specials (this is just a damn fine upbeat riot) Hip-Hop: Wu Tang Clan - Enter The Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) (for me this is the only hip hop album i've heard that does not have one single bad track) Electronic: Kraftwerk - Trans Europe Express (i can listenm to this album anytime, anyplace and in any mood) Guilty Pleasure: i adhere to the philosophy that one should never feel guilty about anything that brings them pleasure (in music at least)....but i understand the concept Lady Gaga - The Fame Monster (when i let go and accepted the fact that Bad Romance is quite possible one of the most addictive songs i had ever heard.....things just fell into place) Any additional one Album (Noise): Brighter Death Now - Innerwar (dark broading frightening an absolute trip through someone else decent into insanity) |
