I was gonna declare Brick the winner this morning. But I'll go until this afternoon to see if it gets anymore votes. You can thank Mrd00d for keeping Thrust alive for the moment.
|
Thick as a Brick - 6
Thrust - 4 Well, I may as well vote, too. Thick is fairly good. I'm REALLY not a fan of Jehtro Tull, or prog rock in general, really. But once again, I love Thrust. Point goes to Hancock! Not that I expect Thrust to win, I just figured I'd go on record with liking it more. |

**Here's the deal: I want in on this battle so I will submit my suggestion as the next album challenger. My question to you guys, do you want to continue >4 Tracks or less, or do we want a new theme? To cut down on excess posts, please post your opinion when you vote for the next battle.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Despite a last minute surge, Thick as a Brick haults Thrust's win streak at two, winning by a score of 6-4. Next up, Pedestrian presents Kashiwa Daisuke's Program Music 1 to take on Brick. Thick as a Brick by Jethro Tull http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w..._brick_big.jpg 1. it's "Program Music 1" and not "Music Program 1"

Thick as a Brick: 0
Program Music I: 1 I do enjoy Thick as a Brick, but seeing as this is my challenger, and an album I think is really excellent... naturally... |
yeah, I've heard Program Music 1 by now, interesting layers, orchestral soundscapes, bits where it's almost soundtrack-y and drum n bass/dubstep parts, not to mention crackling static where I thought my download has some errors
overtakes TAAB by a mile Program Music 1 - 2 TAAB - 0 |
Huh, now I'm interested. Guess I'll have to listen.
EDIT Listened to it. PM1 beats Thick by miles and miles. Really interesting, cool material. Program Music 1 - 3 TAAB - 0 |
I agree with Howard's description about the KD album, it was an impressive album to listen to, but I will probably never listen to it again. The Jethro Tull album though, is just so much better to sleep to.
Program Music I -3 TAAB -1 |
I won't vote yet because I haven't listened to the challenger yet. For anyone interested, here's a great review on it. I'm going to spin it a few times, and then vote, but you all probably know, it is highly doubtful that it will beat out TAAB for me.
Kashiwa Daisuke - Program Music I (staff review) | Sputnikmusic |
I'll take votes until Wednesday afternoon and unless we get more votes or a tie, I'll set up the next battle.
AND!!! Do you guys want to keep the current theme or do you want a new one? Let me know! |
I'm not sick of this yet. I really want to see if we can get more than two wins out of someone. Maybe it would be more effective if we lowered it to 3 wins?

As for the current theme, put in Close to the Edge and that will obliterate the competition:p: |

My Vote in this one goes to TAAB |
Well I gave Program Music I a few spins, and it's good. However, I don't feel like it's something that I would listen to on purpose, I actually left my computer without realizing that I'd left the music on. TAAB acts--in my eyes--as an album that I would purposefully listen to and to do so both attentively and passively. Program Music I is an album that I would listen to passively, be it during meditation, sleep, etc. So my vote shall be going to the LSD Pied Piper.
Program Music I -3 TAAB -2 |
Program Music was way more interesting to me.
Program Music I -4 TAAB -3 |

I think we will continue the theme for a few more battles. I'm taking my turn for this one, but send in albums to battle for 4 tracks or less, I need suggestions, pretty please :D. Also, I plan on keeping the win limit to 5. If MB decideds an album is the best within the theme it's in, I think if has to earn that right and be vetted to a certain point.
-------------------------------------------------------------- After a few recounts to make sure no votes were missed, Program Music 1 pulls a quick, slick trick and licks Thick as a Brick, ending its win streak at 1. From yours truly, I offer up our first album with only one track from one of my favorite rap groups. Program Music 1 by Kashiwa Daisuke http://akrin.net/pics/favorite_album...0Music%20I.jpg 1. Defeated Jethro Tull's Thick as a Brick 4-3 Vs. Untitled by Dalek https://flacforthemasses.com/sites/d...ed-edition.jpg |
*sighs* well I guess TAAB will not be the first trincumbent of this theme. Quite unfortunate, for I voted twice for this composition.
On to the new war. Well, I'm kind of stuck between a rock and a hard place on this battle, but when objectively compared, these albums leave me stuck between a rock and a torture chamber (take this analogy from a non-masochistic point of view). Program Music I provides a soundscape to explore, a composition that resides in the vast complexities of its own development. Contrastingly, Untitled takes the beaten path among hip hop artists--even if it is quite experimental for the genre--and walks along the same manner of developing a song, only in a more prolonged manner. Untitled does serve as one of the better hip-hop pieces that I have yet to hear, but it does not hold a candle, nor wick, nor match to Program Music I. So, since I prefer background music with interesting textures to that of (moderately) experimental hip hop, my vote shall go to Program Music I. Program Music I - 1 Untitled - 0 |

just got Untitled and heard it once
not properly digested and needs a second spin i definitely do like it better than Absence atm okay have heard it twice:- Unntitled - well, i would say the "noise rock" doesn't disrupt his flow as much as "Absence", but this is just a composite of a few songs rather than a proper progression - the stuff from 8-10 mins is just inconsequential, it only picks up at 20 mins plus, and the 28 to 33 min mark is the best thing i've heard from rap, but sadly, the ten minutes or so before the spoken word comes in is so boring that i'm wondering when it'll end Daisuke's still got the edge on composition Program Music 1 - 2 Untitled - 0 |
Program Music 1 - 3
Untitled - 0 Going to stick with Program Music here. I don't have much to say about Untitled, other than that I prefer Absence by a long shot. |
I want more votes, for either side, but it's time to send Untitled to the farm upstate so he can run and play all day long. Mrd00d abides, and sends in a modern psychedelic album to take on 2-time winner Program Music 1.
Program Music 1 by Kashiwa Daisuke http://akrin.net/pics/favorite_album...0Music%20I.jpg 1. Defeated Jethro Tull's Thick as a Brick 4-3 2. Defeated Dalek's Untitled 3-0 Vs. Love, Fear, Choices and Astronauts by The :Egocentrics http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...500_AA300_.jpg |
Program Music I: 1
Love, Fear, Choices, and Astronauts: 0 Sticking with Program Music. Though the Egocentrics' album was solid psych rock, I can't say I find it as captivating or replayable as Program Music. |
While I enjoyed Program Music, I of course will go with my rec. of :Egocentrics. I truly find Program Music to be pleasant and unique, but I feel opposite of Pedestrian. I find :Egocentrics to be more replayable, if not more captivating.
Program Music I: 1 Love, Fear, Choices, and Astronauts: 1 |
I found that the Egocentrics's piece had something of a cliche about it. However, they took that same cliche, raped it, and made it their own baked and jammed out version of their own. In comparison to the textural--a quality that I often seek out in music--aspects of Program Music I, it really seeks a more realistic and enjoyable goal than strictly background music. Hence, my vote shall go to Love, Fear, Choices, and Astronauts.
Program Music I: 1 Love, Fear, Choices, and Astronauts: 2 |
For me, Program Music 1 is rather subtle, but very colorful at the same time. At the same time, I feel it wanders too much for my taste, and is much more enjoyable as background music rather than a sit down and listen album. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but when the Egocentrics have the same colorful pallet and holds my interest at full attention... I have to give the nod to the Egocentrics.
Program Music I: 1 Love, Fear, Choices, and Astronauts: 3 *This may be the last battle with this theme, depending on the outcome. If so, the theme will only be tabled and can be resumed again with the current results. |
Ok. The Egocentrics win their battle, and end the win streak of Program Music 1 at 2.
We've been going with the 4 Tracks or less theme for awhile and have had several battles. So far, only Thrust and Program Music 1 have managed more than one win. I think it's about the time we change themes. So, here are the 4 for you to choose from. We will vote for one week and will start taking albums next Monday. Sophomore Albums Albums before their time Punk albums from 1977-1980 Albums that reprise/revisit songs or themes |
I vote Punk albums from 1977-1980, I believe I suggested that:D
|
All very good choices, I can think of five for each. I'm going for Sophomore Albums, my rec.
