Basically, if it's late 19th/early 20th century music, I'd love to hear it. Ragtime, old-time, proto-jazz, zydeco, Tin Pan Alley, whatever. Bring it on.

I'll start with a little Scott Joplin:

How did you find that music.

It's exceedingly common (and fantastic) music. You haven't heard Scott Joplin's ragtime?

Here's more old timey stuff. Young Louis Armstrong was in Joe Oliver's band at one point:

Although Roscoe Holcomb wasn't born until 1912 and to me doesn't really belong to the "era of old time music" that much but one could not deny that his music very much is old time music and traditional music. Holcomb was also a very prominent figure in Appalachian folk music.
Holcomb played banjo, guitar, harmonica and he performed many songs in acapella. His repertoire included old time music, traditionals, hymns and blues songs.

I love this man and the music he plays.

I remember finding one of my mum's CDs of Fats Waller's stuff, it's got a fantastic life to it, and always makes me feel more cheerful afterwards.

I'm not sure what era this is from (I've always had a weakness for the accordion, though), but here's some french brothel music:

This song is excellent. This has some Congolese sound in it. I have a few Franco songs done in the 1960s. It has some rock and roll sounds in it.

^ I don't know a lot about Congolese music but I've listened to some soukous, and now some Franco/TPOK Jazz stuff since you mentioned it - and I can definitely hear the echoes there. Very interesting. Glad you enjoyed the song.
