So many new members! It's weird seeing them all in one place.

I'd pay quite a large sum of money to see them live.

There is one album I keep going back to no matter what. And i'm always in the mood for it. It's Jon Anderson's Animation.
http://g-ecx.images-amazon.com/image....L._AA300_.jpg If you're a fan of Jon Anderson's vocals, I suggest checking it out. If you're a fan of him in Yes only, than this won't be your cup of tea. It's got an 80's vibe going for it, which he pulls off so well.. |
This is a completely impossible question to answer for me, but here's one that's certainly a contender, Kill Me Tomorrow's The Garbageman and the Prostitute:

Not just the album itself, but also that it was a sort of catalyst to broaden my horizons. |
I do not know if I can pick a favorite. But I will say, just on the basis it contains my all-time favorite song.. that as of now:

Aesop Rock - Labor Days Still trying to figure it all out. |

AND http://i.imgur.com/dIvAC.jpg Both are without a doubt responsible for shaping my character and personality. |
Mine's probably pretty obvious, given my username, but here goes.
http://www.beefheart.com/datharp/alb...pics/trout.jpg Trout Mask Replica by Captain Beefheart and His Magic Band Every time you listen to it, it sounds fresh, there's always something new to find within the blathering cacophony. I love John "Drumbo" French's drumming with a passion, and Don van Vliet tosses his extraordinary vocal and poetic talents at us amidst the instrumentation. And what's more, it's endorsed by our current president. http://www.promiseandwarning.com/sit...Trout+Mask.jpg |

http://www.canyouseethesunset.com/up...-domestica.jpg Not sure about all time, but lately it's been these two. |
On a personal level it is this:
http://t0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:A...KGtbISpXYK4OQQ but musically I still haven't heard an album that tops this for longevity, originality, experimentation or audacity: http://t0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:A...K4PCcqx_rXR3zQ Bands have experimented before and there are far more more influential musicians out there I will agree but I haven't heard anything that comes close to this even though it is 13 years old. |
Can't name one particular album. Now, maybe I can name my favorite album of a particular genre of a particular year (maybe decade), but I can't pick one of all time. It's literally impossible.
|
As opposed to figuratively?
|
I knew I was going to get a response like that. I tend to use the word "literally" quite often. Kind of a habit.

Rumours on the Rebound, a compilation by Finnish progressive rock band, Wigwam. Led by British ex-patriot, Jim Pembroke, the band signed to Virgin in the late seventies and were popular with the music press, but a debilitating tour with Gong in 1976, led them to return to Finland.

Probably the album that made the biggest impression on me, got me into prog rock and still sounds amazing even now, almost three decades later. Never equalled, never surpassed. A classic in every sense.
https://encrypted-tbn1.google.com/im...kfFS0knYaBCX0w A very dark album, to be honest: not much in the way of uplifting songs on it, other than maybe "Garden party", but deep, thoughtful, insightful and full of sharp satirical jabs at everything from high society to sectarian conflict. Definitely deserves a place in anyone's top ten albums. |
A really difficult one to answer, as my top five interchange so much. Overall, though, I'd have to go for;
http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-OSVpUClhyG...a%252Btree.jpg Such a phenomenal album that had such a major impact on me. There was a depth and feeling to this album that's still there for me today. Definitely one of the best 1-7 tracks I've ever heard on any album. I bought the original on tape and wore it out, before finally getting on CD!! |

Wow! Someone else like the Alan Parsons Project! Cool! "Pyramid" is a great album, certainly, with a lot of APP weirdness about it (thinking "In the lap of the gods" here) --- not my favourite from them but definitely top five.
Nice to see you again Anteater: out of hibernation? :) |
