Most Underrated Album By These Groups:
 

What album to you seems to be the most undderated in all of these groups catalogs? :) and why?

The Rolling Stones - Goats Head Soup (Every song on it is amazing so how it's never praised by the critics puzzles me :/..)

The Beatles - Magical Mystery Tour (John's favorite album by the fab four because it's "weird". lol)

The Kinks - Face to Face (We all hear about village green and arthur but this had to be the beginning of their new sound that's beautifully sophisticated...not one bad song on the masterpiece.)

The Who - The Who Sell Out (I really wished they pursued the psychedelic sound more because this was a gem.)

Pink Floyd - Animals (Its lyrics described various classes in society as different kinds of animals...that's all that needs to be said.)

Genesis - Duke (When it comes to these guys i always hear that "Selling England by The Pound" is their greatest album or blah blah Peter Gabirel era was the best and everything else is trash. WELL **** THAT! The best is definitely hard to pick but i definitely will have to say Duke is slept on :/.)

The Doors - Strange Days (We were confident it was going to be bigger than anything The Beatles had done. - Jim Morrison)

The Rolling Stones - Let it Bleed. Yeah, it's a top tier album by the Stones. But, I think it's miles and miles ahead of anything else they've done.

The Beatles - Beatles for Sale. Of the early records, this one is my favorite. (Despite Mr. Moonlight being one of their worst recorded songs ever)

The Kinks - Lola vs. the Powerman and the Money-go-round. Sorta the same argument as Let it Bleed. Village Green is really good, but this is so much better.

The Who - The Who Sell Out. I agree.

Pink Floyd - Meddle. Animals is a good choice, but I think it has more overall praise than Meddle.

Genesis - Trespass. Totally prog snob/opposite, bro. It's all about Peter Gabriel's Genesis. The Knife? Top 10 favorite prog song ever.

The Doors - Morrison Hotel. You're telling my Peace Frog, Waiting for the Sun and Roadhouse Blues are all on one album and it's not considered one of their better works?

ok the fact that most critics and fans say that exile is better than let it bleed bugs the hell outta me! :/ let it bleed is their best album.

beatles for sale had it's moments but it was mostly covers that ruined it for me.

lola versus the powerman was a great album but i have 2 disagree with it being better than village green. (the moneygoround?)

trepass was another gorgeous piece of art :) why do people hate phil collins era so much? just because they went mainstream? the music was still great!
their best albums however might be "the lamb lies down on broadway"

i agree with you on morrison hotel but what about these songs? blue sunday? indian summer? both in my top 5 doors songs

For Pink Floyd I'd say UmmaGumma. For being so strange.

Strange with ****ty music on it.

The Rolling Stones - Tattoo you (I think that there are some real winners on here. Of course we always hear the overplayed Start Me Up which drives me crazy. But Waiting on a friend is my fav stones song)

The Beatles - Please Please Me (I'm going with this one because it was the debut album and really launched the ground work for the later albums which are so heavily praised, for good reason)

The Kinks - Face to Face (Kind of what you said)

The Who - Quadrophenia (This album is the boooomb, my favorite of theirs. Much more listenable than Tommy and not as overplayed as Who's Next. Almost every song has a catchy hook and some great music.)

Genesis - Invisible Touch (Pretty much every song on here is a winner. If you guy in expecting to find the mystery to life, you'll be disappointed. But it's a great pop album)

The Doors - Morrison Hotel (Again some more good tunes on here and if we're talking UNDERRATED this is it. Peace Frogs, Road House Blues, Waiting for the Sun)

UmmaGumma is great. If that's what you're into.

Umma is a fantastic album and Peter Gabriel era Genesis kicks Phil Collin's in the balls.

The Live part is an excellent representation of Pink Floyd in between the Syd era and Meddle.

I won't post regarding every band as I am not a big fan of some and is there really an underrated Beatles album in terms of popularity for one aspect of their sound or other?

Pink Floyd, I will comment on though and their most underrated album is Obscured By Clouds. Recorded in just a few weeks (not the norm for them) but chock full of some great tracks: the title track, Childhood's End, Free Four etc. It's better than DSOTM and The Wall IMO by far. Far more organic.

Genesis. I think Foxtrot is nothing short of a masterpiece and it is by far my favourite Peter Gabriel era album and most of their PG output actually leaves me bored but for underrated the S/T takes it for me. Mama and Home By The Sea (both parts) are classic tracks and fuse the 70's predilection for tempo changes with the advancement of electronic recording really well.
