I wouldn't put Disintegration or Violator among my favorite albums - I doubt I could easily pick a few favorites - but they were two of the first to make me crave emotionally deep, lyrically sophisticated, instrumentally complex music instead of whatever happened to be popular in pop-rock.

Van Morrison's Astral Weeks. Or Bob Dylan's Highway 61 Revisited.

It is tie for my between The Stone Roses and Endtroducing by DJ Shadow.

Varies day by day as I tend to get hooked into one band and then abandon them a few months after, but this is all i can think of for the moment:

I hate to be generic, but I can not help.
It's probably 'White Album' by The Beatles or 'Pet Sounds' or maybe Ramones' 'Leave Home'. I really don't know.

Mine would easily be Trout Mask Replica by Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band. It changed the way that I look at music as a whole and sounds fresh to this day whenever I listen to it. If you're not yet aware, my username is the same as the opening track of the album.

In addition to this, Peter Brotzmann Octet's "Machine Gun" is tied with TMR. Hard hitting free jazz that makes his hardcore predecessors seem like pansies.
