Coolest Voice for Music!?!?

Who do you think has the coolest voice for music? In my opinion, and possible MANY others, Mike Ness has the best voice. :)

Hmm. tough. (My list doesn't include the deceased otherwise it'd be easy (Kurt!!))
I have many I'd consider: Billy Joe Armstrong, Tom Delonge, Gwen Stefani, Mike Ness, Davey Havok, Serj Tankian, Billy Corgan, and Thom Yorke. :)

gerard way and bert mccracken.. there's a bunch more im just kinda spacing.

ArtistInTheAmbulance 05-17-2005 02:13 AM

Gerard Way? Nothing special really... Granted he's good, but in the whole wide world of music? Naaah...

Merkaba 05-17-2005 03:09 AM

I'm gunna say maynard. Not cause im a tool fan. But simply because maynard is that good.

Jack Johnson has one of the most relaxing voices i've ever heard

Jello Biafra

MobilizeTerror 05-17-2005 04:00 AM

Hah, Jello Biafra is good. But in some songs he kinda sounds chipmunkish. :D

Im gonna agree with Snickers on Serj Tankian.... He has an awesome voice, and you can always tell its him. He's got a lotta power in his voice too.

gogojessicat 01-20-2010 07:24 PM

craig finn of the hold steady. i love it. and when you look at him you wouldn't really expect that voice.

duga 01-20-2010 07:29 PM

i have always loved elliot smith's voice.

Antonio 01-20-2010 07:36 PM

i'll agree with Serj Tankien and Jello Biarfa, not to mention Robert Plant and Neil Fallon(Clutch)

There is no way for me to choose a favorite vocalist. I can, however, think of some that always stand out to me. First, Andy Falkous from Future of the Left always stood out to me as interesting and edgy and I really like that. Second, Jordan Billie and Johnny Whitney doing the tag-team/combo vocals for the Blood Brothers was just so incredibly well done and it just really worked well. From then on, I've listened to all of Johnny's other projects and he's proven himself to be one of my favorite vocalists ever.

Finally, Tom Waits. His gruff and almost exotic voice drives me nuts. It's so cool, but it sticks out like a sore thumb.

Ugh...there's another thread on the same subject that's much longer and active much more recently than this one.

Wow. I have seen a lot of picks on here that I was not expecting, in a bad way. Billie Joe? Davey Havok? Gerard Way? God. Damn!
I know I'm not getting old, but a lot of these picks definitely paint a picture of just how young some of you kids are.

And I'm a Jello Biafra fan, but he definitely doesn't have a great voice.

Coolest voice for music? As a whole? Well, damn! Not asking much! A few off the top would be some old Chris Cornell, Layne Stayley, Mike Patton, Maynard J.K., Carla Kihlstedt, select Tom Waits, Jeff Buckley, and Mikael Akerfeldt.

i totally agree...and glad to see your not going for just the people that can hit the notes. tom waits's voice sounds like a gutter but it is the only way that music could be done...and he does it perfectly.

jeff buckley can pretty much just tear it up
