I'd never been into music before. On one Christmas I got two country tapes and thought that I had gotten the wrong presents, then I found, to my horror, that my parents had boughten me a cassette player for x-mass; I had thought that it was going to be one of them bicycles that looked like a motorcycle. I barely used it for anything other than recording my own voice.

I was only into movies, specifically horror, and then I found myself in high school and all of my friends were into music, I told them that horror movies were to me as music was to them. And then, like I stated, I decided I'd try it and since I've found two loves in my life: horror movies and music...

my turning point was getting Top of the Pops on VHS

that's when it became "serious"

My first music memory was about 6, when my mum used to play Skid Row, Aerosmith, Bon Jovi, and Guns N Roses alot, I used to jump around the room with an air guitar. Then my mum bought me a toy guitar that would make crappy guitar noises when you pressed some buttons on the fretboard, so I took the batteries out and used that instead of my air guitar. I don't have my toy guitar anymore but I still occasionally play my air guitar, that baby has stood the test of time.

My parents were not into my love of music, in fact they hardly listened to any, but they actually helped me in my of music in many strange ways that caused me to listen to music even more.


With getting The Beatles/White Album as a X-mas gift as a kid (at 7), they were possibly thinking that they were getting two albums of "yeah yeah yeah" when instead they gave me one of the most interesting albums ever. My Sister hated "Revolution 9" (smiles a VERY Satanic smile!), causing me to play it even more. I also loved "Helter Skelter" quite a bit.

Some time before that, they got me a collection of singles bought as a set of 50 from Montgomery Ward (US Chain store, now defunct I think). This ranged from classic under-rated Soul with singles from the Cadet (Etta James' cover of "Security" stands out), Philly Groove (related to Bell, which was about to turn into Arista in The US at that time), and Invictus labels, classics like the Who's "Magic Bus," other records like The Box Tops' "Turn on a Dream" and even very bad recordings like Danny Bonaduche's "Blueberry You." I was educated in the good, the bad, and the outright ugly in a 50 7" disc shot! Apparently, they got a whole bunch of cut-outs (with drilled holes in the label area), many of them really cool to listen to - kind of like being the only one in town with some hard to find treasure.

Oh yeah, possibly my first albums bought at Garage Sales at friend of my Mother included Rubber Soul, the Four Tops' Greatest Hits, and The Beates' collection released in The US, Hey Jude/The Beatles Again.

They did not really know how much of a music fiend I was going to turn out to be, but with examples like these, why should I not? Ages 7-8 may not have been a totally great time, but Music was something that kept me going anyways.

they did take me to see pretty musical movies, and there being no age restrictions back then for movies, and my mom and dad not caring much either way, they brought me to see Grease, Saturday Night Fever and Abba : The Movie

I started in the 5th grade with Rap, but as I grew up and met new friends I eventually strayed towards metal and rock. So I would of been around 14. Started listening to H.I.M, then onto Maiden - saw them in concert, there was a metalcore band that opened for them Rise to Remain. That was what got me into Bullet and eventually Post-Hardcore.

It all began when I was 13 with a little album called "Definitely Maybe"...

When I was in the 8th grade (age 14)

i was a late bloomer, i always liked music but i never loved music. I used to treat music like movies, just something you casually invest some time in once in a while, so i mainly listened to easily accessible bands as i never knew any better, bands like Oasis, Blur, Green Day, Manic Street Preachers, Weezer, Limp Bizkit and maybe even a bit of the Beatles. Something stuck me on my voyage of musical discovery, strangely enough it was a film, i can't remember which but i loved the soundtrack and started searching for the artists; then i came across one of them; The Velvet Underground, i bought their Velvet Underground and Nico album on the whim and just wow... I had never experienced music like this, emotive, powerful and so distinctive. I think that was the moment i began to love music and it is why i am on here today.

Frankie Avalon's "De De Dinah" is undoubtedly the best song ever recorded, or it seemed so when I was five, back in 1958.

Elvis Presley's "I Got Stung" and "Too Much" were close runner ups (or runners up).

Of course, when the Everly Brothers came out, we all forgot about Frankie and Elvis.

People are exposed to a music at an early age, depending on what your family and friends listen to, and what's out at the time. It was probably party music and soppy pop songs when I was five, but I really accustomed a love for a music in my early teens as I became more aware of what it constituted and meant.
