Sinead O'Connor

Hello. I've started listening to 'Nothing compares 2U' A LOT today, im suddenly obsessed with the song. What Sinead O'Connor album is best to start with?

appleghost 11-07-2012 08:53 AM

The only album by Sinead O'Connor I have listened to is "Universal Mother", and I like it. You should check it out! It's probably not her best album, but then again, I don't know.
The album features a cover of Nirvana's "All Apologies", and it's very quiet and beautiful.

I think that song is the only one that has made Sinead O'connor today. Other than that, her other songs are either not known or most people don't care for her.

Trollheart 11-07-2012 11:38 AM

Check out "The lion and the cobra", especially "Mandinka", "Jackie" and "Troy". But in fairness, it's the only one of her albums I have, or have listened to.

NC2U was of course composed by Prince, so although it's far and away her biggest and most recognisable hit, it's probably not a fair representation of her music.

I heard the Pope didn't like her.

Ekoskeletal is telling the truth. The pope atually very much disliked her big time.

I've been going through 90's SNL on Netflix and I actually just watched the episode where she tore up that picture. They cut the music performances, and even if they showed them SNL doesn't air her doing that anymore (they show a clip from rehearsals), but it was still interesting to see where it happened. The next few episodes really did a lot to save SNL's image by making fun of her hardcore.

those pussies. Nothing Compares is sweet, though, but I can't say I've listened to much else. I like her iconoclastic nature though.

There's no evidence the pope gave two ****s about her. Fact is, she hated the Catholic Church for the way they look(ed) down on women, for their views on abortion, contraception and such, and their exclusively male-dominated organisation. She held up a picture of the pope and called him evil and tore it up, so yeah, she's no fan of his. But I don't believe the Vatican ever responded to the attack, as it were...

I always thought she had a beautiful voice. Shes bat**** crazy though. I remember watching SNL live when that happened. My dad said big deal the Pope is probably raping someone right now.

Surell 11-08-2012 10:01 PM

Your dad and I have that in common.

recently she was publicly stated that she wants sex, from anyone.

sopsych 11-14-2012 10:14 AM

She's bipolar, probably due to genes, upbringing, the stress of being a celebrity, etc.

I personally recommend "The Emperor's New Clothes." More guitar-driven than what I believe is typical of Sinead. Also, reminded by randomly hearing it now, "Mandinka," which Trollheart suggested.

Who's going to give it to her? That's right. You, my man!

yellowhat 11-17-2012 10:55 AM

with her first :-)

Rapture Rider 11-19-2012 03:50 AM

Faith and Courage is well worth a listen. I love the song Jealous.

Morphinelle 11-24-2012 09:05 PM

Hear 'Special Cases', a collaboration between her and Massive Attack. That song in my opinion is way better than the Prince ballad, the instrumentals stand out her vocals in a thrilling mood.

^ Cool. Thanks for the tip guys.

I'd like to see what you guys think of this cover of John Lennon's song 'Mind Games' sung by good ol' Sinead. Thoughts?
