Because they are analogue, they keep on playing even when they get worn out, or damaged. Digital stuff like CDs just jumps skips and then stops working completely. Vinyl, like analog radio just deteriorates. And vinyl labels and sleeves can be things of great beauty.

They get pretty unplayable when the needle takes a flying leap off a warp or when a deep scratch gets you stuck in a loop.
