Default Ideas for a sound proof studio

I am looking to play more music from home and would like ideas for a cheap studio. Any ideas?

are you actually looking to make it so the sound doesn't escape? and if so, are you going to be playing acoustic drums or trumpets?

Blankets on the walls, and a box to sing into would be a good cheap start.

What is your 'home' situation like?
- do you live alone?
- apartment / duplex / shared walls? or independent bungalow?
- do you have neighbors above or below you?

What's your full expectation and justification for soundproofing?
- playing by yourself?
- jamming with friends?
- home recording?

Like zevokes said, are you trying to completely block sound from escaping the room (which is doable... for a price $$$$$$$$) or just conditioning the room so that recordings sound better? The type of instruments and musical styles are also a factor to consider.
