A Cry for Consciousness

Lupe Fiasco cut short after anti-Obama inauguration event rant | Scene | Arts | National Post

"RAPPER'S PERFORMANCE OF ANTI-WAR SONG LEADS TO EJECTION."...
Lupe Fiasco is booted off stage because of igniting controversy against government policies.

Rick Ross gets to use the same sample 47 different times while he openly ponders whether to snort his cocaine or throw it away for fun.
Rihanna gets to say that ecstasy is in her veins and she really doesn't care because she has so many dollar bills she could stack them higher than the Great Wall stood.

My point is not that these artists should be boycotted or condemned. My point isn't even that we should stop listening to them. I just urge us as a society to allow consciousness to enter our thoughts.
My point is IF you allow your mind to be shaped by poison, your actions will reflect that same lethal message.
We are constantly living in ignorance and this time it's not bliss.

I read this earlier today and I have to say Lupe Fiasco comes across like a big whiney baby. The Palestinians have been at war with the Jews forever, and nothing is gonna change that not even a stance siding with The Palestinians. As for thought provoking music it certainly comes in cycles. Lots of great stuff out there to be found with the right set of eyes and ears.

I think it's worth keeping in mind that this was at an inauguration event. What did Lupe Fiasco think was going to happen? I actually think it's a little hypocritical of him to choose to be a part of an event celebrating a politician that he is opposed to. If he doesn't like the president, by all means he should speak up and criticize him, but he shouldn't also sign-up for the welcome wagon in order to give a boost to his own floundering career.

Your points are compelling, I don't discredit what you are saying.
1. What did he think would happen? Conjecture.... My thoughts are that he thought he would start a fire. Desperate times, desperate measures.
2. If you are opposed to the president, what BETTER way to expose the puppet's futility and corruption.
3. I don't disagree that if he was in little mermaid he would be Flounder for sure... but it was more the audacity that is striking and notable...

If I can redirect, it's the numbness to the outrageous messages bolstered in society, and the outrage to those whose message echoes relevance - that needs to change.

What has Lupe Fiasco ever done for The Palestinians? That would be my first question. I find it hypocritical along with Jansz being that he knows the stance of the USA and the fact they're on very good terms with Israel. It puts The President in a peculiar spot which Lupe Fiasco has never been in. Honestly what has Lupe Fiasco done for anyone less his Arab Girlfriend?

Israel, Arab, Hypocrisy, Palestine. Worldly, notions, corruption, ideologies.
I understand his actions will now be under microscope after making such bold face statements.. "Hypocrite for you want to protest against a cause but how else do you shed light on it besides causing ruckus?" It's complex...

Should an artist not go to desperate measures if they feel the cause creates a burn inside them enough to justify doing so? Should he mute his voice because big brother Israel is watching...America is in enough trouble with or without his stance. I don't know the answers I'm just glad the convo is happening.

In what way did Lupe Fiasco "expose the puppet's futility and corruption"? He chanted the chorus to one of his songs repeatedly for half an hour, then got booted by the organizers of the event who, as far as I can tell, are just a private company, not part of the government.

By making me post this thread, join this website and be mindful of creating conscious music in my future. A lot of youth today could care less about what the government has to say, about anything. I think I am seeing the fire started and it's exciting for me, if that was somehow misconstrued in my post it's because I lack the ability to articulate why it was so moving for me. Maybe we will never know why he did what he did.

Well if he inspires people who never thought about politics to get more involved, that's certainly a good thing. I hope they will end up approaching things with a little more depth than he does though.

I thought it lacked depth and timing also. If he wants to chastise politicians then do it in a video, not the Presidential inauguration.
